ABOUT CL
CL debuted with 2NE1 under YG Entertainment back in 2009. Before debuting with the group, she had trained under JYP Entertainment. She was accepted into YG Entertainment when she was fifteen years old and had featured on BIGBANG's songs "Intro (Hot Issue)" in 2007. She also featured as a rapper in Uhm Jung Hwa's 2008 song "DJ."
2NE1 had collaborated with label mates BIGBANG for the song "Lollipop" before their official debut. The group was an instant success, winning "Song of the Year" at the 2009 Mnet Asian Music Awards with "I Don't Care." They are the first rookie group to win a daesang the same year they debuted.
CL had started songwriting for 2NE1's second album "Crush," where she wrote and co-composed the following songs, "Crush," "Baby I Miss You," and "If I Were You." She also wrote the lyrics for her solo song "MTBD" and "Scream."
In 2013, CL released her first solo single "The Baddest Female," but officially debuted as a soloist in 2015 with "Hello Bitches." She had also previously featured on Diplo's song "Doctor Pepper." In 2016, CL made her America debut with the song "Lifted," which peaked at number 21 on the iTunes Hip-Hop/Rap chart. She went on to embark on a solo North American tour.
In late 2016, YG Entertainment announced that 2NE1 would be disbanding. This came following member Park Bom's drug scandal in 2014 and Minzy's departure from YG Entertainment in 2016. The group released a farewell single for their fans in January 2017 called "Goodbye," which was written by CL. The group's last activity was in 2015, where they made a surprise performance at the 2015 Mnet Asian Music Awards in Hong Kong.
She collaborated with Lil Yachty in 2017 for the song "Surrender" in 2017 and recorded the single "No Better Feelin" for the soundtrack of the "My Little Pony" movie back in 2017. In 2018, she performed at the 2018 Winter Olympics closing ceremony.
In January 2018, CL debuted as an actress in the American film "Mile 22."
In 2019, YG Entertainment announced that CL would not be renewing her contract and would be leaving the company. She released an extended play a month after leaving the company and has not signed with a label.
