On midnight of August 19, Wednesday, SM Entertainment unveiled the teaser photos of Red Velvet as they prepare to release their rendition of BoA's "Milky Way", in collaboration for a special project to celebrate the soloist's twentieth anniversary.
When the teasers were revealed, fans around the world could not hide their excitement when they saw Wendy and her individual teaser.
In December 2019, Wendy had suffered major injuries during rehearsal for the 2019 SBS Gayo Daejeon. The idol has fallen off a platform during rehearsal for her solo performance, causing her to fracture her face, the right side of her pelvis, and her wrist. She had fallen off a height of 2.5 meters. She was immediately rushed to the hospital, and Red Velvet ended up not performing at the event.
When 2020 rolled around, fans started worrying more about Wendy, as there were no signs of her returning. In April, SM Entertainment updated fans on the idol's condition. They stated that though her condition has improved immensely, she is still receiving treatments and is still recovering. In July, the members themselves revealed Wendy is focusing on rehabilitation therapy.
This will be Wendy's first-ever activity since the accident. Upon seeing her individual teaser, fans welcomed her back enthusiastically, complimenting the idol for looking as gorgeous and dazzling as ever. The idol trended worldwide on Twitter, with fans trending #WeMissedYouWendy and #WelcomeBackWendy, warmly welcoming back the Red Velvet member.

Wendy debuted as the main vocalist of Red Velvet in 2014 under SM Entertainment. Prior to her debut, she was introduced to the public a few months before her debut as a member of SM Rookies. She released the song "Because I Love You" for the soundtrack of the drama "Mimi", and had appeared in the music video for the song. She was cast by the company after accompanying her friend to the Global Auditions in Canada in 2012.
In 2015, Wendy collaborated with Yuk Jidam for the song "Return", which was part of the OST for the KBS2 program "Who Are You: School 2015", She released another song called "Let You Know" for the soundtrack of the JTBC drama "D-Day".
In 2016, Wendy became a panelist for the show "We Got Married". She also participated in the show "King of Masked Singer". In March of that year, she collaborated with Eric Nam on the song "Spring Love", as part of SM Station. Two months later, she and Red Velvet member Seulgi released a song called "Don't Push Me", which was included in the soundtrack for the drama "Uncontrollably Fond". She became a panelist for the show "Trick & True" with groupmate Irene. Later that year, she released two more single for SM Station: "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" and "Sound of Your Heart". That same month, she featured in Ricky Martin's English version of his song "Vente Pa' Ca".
In 2017, she released the OST "I Can Only See You" with Seulgi for the drama Hwarang. She also sang the Korean version of "My Time" for Disney's Elena of Avalor. She also became the host of KBS World's K-Rush. For SM Station, she along with Kangta and Seulgi released a remake of the song "Doll". In December, she collaborated with Baek A Yen on the song called "The Little Match Girl".
In 2018, Wendy collaborated with Yang Da-il for the song "One Summer". In October of that year, she collaborated with John Legend for the song "Written in the Stars". In November, she released the song "Goodbye" for the JTBC drama "The Beauty Inside".
In 2019, she was involved in a stage accident during rehearsals for her solo stage at the 2019 SBS Gayo Daejun. All her planned activities were canceled. She was discharged from the hospital in February 2020 but was reported to still be receiving treatment in April and was said to be focusing on physical rehabilitation in July. In March 2020, she was confirmed to take part as a voice actor for the Korean release of the film "Trolls: World Tour".
