Any fashion enthusiast would know very well that accessories are a significant part of an outfit and an essential component of the total look. However, they would also know that too much of anything is never a good thing. K-Pop idol fashion is gorgeous, but at times, it can get a little strange. While sometimes, it works out because the concept demands it, and the idol pulls it off but sometimes, it just looks extra. However, in 2020, extra might not be a bad thing, after all. Here are some accessories that K-Pop idols have worn that are a little unusual but amazing nonetheless!
1. The Face Chain
Face chains have always been a thing in K-Pop fashion, and they continue to be statement pieces. Anytime an idol needs to make a point and stand out, the face chain is the way to go. For EXO's 2019 comeback with "Obsession," Baekhyun stole the hearts of many fans when pictures of him with the face chain were released. He even revealed that the face chain was, in fact, his idea as he wanted to add an edge to his visuals for the comeback. LOONA's Heejin also sported one during promotions for 'So What.' Most recently, Bang Chan of Stray Kids was seen wearing two face chains crisscrossing over for their comeback with God's Menu.
2. The Belly Chain
The belly chain is all the craze, with fans wanting to see all their biases in it. Fans even edit these chains onto their favorite idols. However, the pioneers of the belly chain were easily Monsta X and Blackpink. In MONSTA X's music video for "Jealousy," Kihyun was seen with a chain hanging from inside his shirt, the end of it clipped onto a loop on his pants. When his shirt lifted in the teaser, it revealed that he'd been wearing the silver chain around his belly. Jennie, however, wore it more obviously during a performance. A variant of this, the body chain was sported by many idols and most significantly by the NCT U members for the Boss music video.
3. The Harness
The body harness has recently become a fashion trend in Korean idol fashion with a lot of badass idols donning these. However, the harness has been around for a long, long time. Idols as far back as f(x) were sporting the harness, and today, it is popularised by BTS who even had Dior design their stage outfits for them.
4. Hair Clips
Hair clips, side barrettes, jaw clips, hair bands, and giant scrunchies are all current trends in hair fashion accessories, all thanks to K-Pop idols popularising them in stage outfits and music videos. They all make for adorable additions to your overall outfit, adding the right amount of pizzazz.
5. The Mangtika
This classic Indian-origin accessory was recently worn by BLACKPINK's Jennie in the Music Video for Kill This Love. It looked gorgeous on her and introduced the accessory to a broader audience that quickly took up the trend for themselves.
