Song of the Year, or also known as SOTY, is a grand prize or daesang given to K-pop group or artist which displays overall excellence, technical proficiency and to commemorate their artistic achievements in the recording industry.

As it is one of the highest forms of awards an artist can achieve, winning the SOTY award is a huge honor for the artists as well as to its fandom. Now, people can’t help but wonder if what songs will be going to rock the music awards shows again and snatch the title for SOTY 2020.

Collected from various K-pop community, netizens list down the K-pop songs that could possibly take home the “Song of the year” awards based on the stability of their fandom and music’s popularity, excluding the judges’ decision.

Disclaimer: The following songs are listed in no particular order

Zico’s “Any Song”

“Any Song” popularity is indeed massive globally that is undoubtedly one of the strongest contenders for SOTY 2020. Zico has been able to record a Perfect all-kill chart, stay at No.1 on Gaon Charts for seven weeks and created a viral challenge in TikTok.

However, due to some issues including low album sales and his military enlistment, he might lose his stand for some SOTY nominations.

Red Velvet’s “Psycho”

One of the top choices for SOTY, Red Velvet’s “Pyscho” is on the list! During its release, it didn’t only break multiple charts but joined the idols with an all-kill chart track as well. In addition to this, it also becomes a massive hit not only to Korea but as well as in international countries, where even non-K-pop fans were singing and dancing to it.

However, it was a debate among fans it can be nominated for SOTY as it was released in 2019, though several netizens claimed that it is still eligible for this year’s daesang as it was dropped in late-December 2019.

BTS’s “ON” and “DYNAMITE”

BTS dominance and popularity is undeniable!

“Dynamite” is their most recent song and aside from peaking at No.1 at Billboard Hot 100, it also breaks several chart and records. Meanwhile, “On” also recorded notable achievements and recognitions that if added with one of the strongest and biggest fandoms, ARMY, will most likely to have a massive stand for SOTY.

IU’s “Blueming” and “Eight” (ft. Suga)

“Blueming” is released on mid-November, making it eligible for SOTY 2020. In particular, IU’s song also achieved a perfect all-kill in charts and became one the most mentioned song for the awards.

“Eight” feat Suga is also one of the strongest contenders for its immense popularity and achievements both in charts and music show programs.
