SM Entertainment announced on September 21, Monday, that they would be adding two new members to the NCT roster, Shotaro and Sungchan. At the time, there was no information released on the new members. Now that NCT 2020 had their V Live, however, the members have released their individual profiles.
Here is everything we know about the new members!
Despite initial speculations that both Shotaru and Sungchan would be younger than Jisung, both members are actually older than him. Looks like we won't be hearing "Jisung hyung" for this era!
Let's start with Shotaro. Shotaro, whose full name is Osaki Shotaro, was born on November 25, 2000. That makes him 21 years old in Korean age and will be turning 20 years old this November in international age. Currently 19-years-old, he is the fourth-youngest member of NCT.
He was born in Kanagawa in the Kanto prefecture in Japan, making him the second Japanese member in NCT alongside Yuta, who debuted with NCT 127 in 2016. His two favorite food are two Japanese staples - sushi and dango. Dango is a mochi-like dumpling. Shotaro has said that he has a sweet tooth and loves eating sweets.
His hobbies include watching mukbangs, dancing, and basketball. Since he loves dancing, it is highly speculated that he is part of NCT's dance line. Shotaro thinks he has a soft personality and that his charming point is his eye smile.
Prior to debuting with NCT, Shotaro was an avid user of TikTok. Under the username @shotaro_osaki, uploading numerous dance videos to his account. He even uploaded a video of him dancing NCT 127's "Kick It"! Since his TikTok was only closed down recently, fans believe that he was only a trainee under SM Entertainment for a few months.
Now, let's move on to Sungchan! Sungchan, whose full name is Jung Sungchan, was born on September 14, 2001. That makes him 20-years-old in Korean age. He had just turned 19-years-old internationally this month. He is currently the third youngest overall member of NCT.
He was born in Seoul, South Kora. Some of the hobbies he named include exercising and soccer, which allows us to believe he is highly athletic. He also enjoys playing video games, watching animal videos, and rap making. Looks like we have a potential new rap line member in our presence!
Despite being a lover of sports, Sungchan himself has admitted that he is rather clumsy. He named his charm points as his tall height, eyes, and his goofiness. His favorite food is raw fish and sushi.
Unlike Shotaro, not much information about his pre-debut life. Previously, in a Dear U message to fans, Yangyang revealed that he has known Sungchan ever since his trainee days, so it is highly likely he's been training under SM Entertainment for a few years before making his debut.
As of now, it is unknown which unit Shotaro and Sungchan would join. Going by age, many believe they could join the NCT Dream line-up. However, in April, SM Entertainment announced that they would be abolishing the "graduation" concept within NCT Dream, which has led fans to believe that the unit's line-up is now fixed and no new members will be added.
Some reports have stated that Shotaro and Sungchan would be added to a new NCT unit alongside other members of NCT. This is more likely, though it is unknown what that group's concept would be.
NCT 2020 will be releasing their full-length album, "NCT 2020: RESONANCE Pt.1" on October 12, 2020, with two versions, "The Past Ver." and "The Future Ver." Pre-orders for both online and offline orders opened on September 21, 2020.
