Grumpy Cat: From Meme To Fame, Cranky Kitty To Speak In Big Budget Hollywood Film

Garfield the cat might have new competition in the movie industry - there's a new feline in Hollywood.

Grumpy Cat, the kitten who wears a grouchy face and was voted Meme of the Year at the 2013 Webby Awards, will be featured in a film produced by the same company that released Kevin James' Zookeeper, Deadline announced on Wednesday.

But the feline won't just be purring in her Hollywood debut.

Tarder Sauce, the cat's real name, will have the ability to speak and have lines in the film. Grumpy Cat's manager, Ben Lashes, told BuzzFeed that the cat will appear in live action, allowing flexibility with prospective story lines and roles.

BuzzFeed also reports that some of the Grumpy Cat's possible roles include a humorless veteran cop partnering with an eager rookie, a suburban resident who was too scared to follow her dreams and an Oscar the Grouch biopic.

Lashes and his representative, Al Hassas, is working with Broken Road Production managers Todd Garner and Sean Robins to select a role best fit for the ill-tempered kitten.

"This started off as a picture of a cat, but rare is an image that evokes that much comedy," Garner told Deadline. "You read all of the memes and the comments, and one is funnier than the next. We think we can build a big family comedy around this character."

The Grumpy Cat has over 900,000 likes on Facebook and has over 20 million views on videos featuring the feline on YouTube.

The movie's release date has not been announced.
