BTS Wins Top Social Artist at The Billboard Music Awards

On October 15, Thursday, the Billboard Music Awards announced on their social media accounts that BTS had won the Top Social Artist award.

The Billboard Music Awards was held on October 15 (October 14 in the United States) at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Originally, the ceremony was scheduled for April 2020 in Las Vegas but was ultimately postponed until October following the COVID-19 pandemic. While there were some guests who appeared on the venue to perform, BTS was not present in the physical event.

BTS joined the ceremony from South Korea and performed their number-one hit single "Dynamite". The boys were dressed in full smoky jazz club attire and were backed up a virtual black. While the set looked like it was outdoor, the boys revealed at the end of their performance that they did in fact film in a studio, showing a simulated plane taking off overhead.

Not only did BTS perform, they actually took home on an award! For the fourth year in a row, BTS won the Top Social Artist award. This category is fan-voted, proving the strong voting power of the ARMY. Other K-pop groups nominated for this category include EXO and GOT7. BTS was also up against Billie Eilish and Ariana Grande.

The boys filmed a thank you speech for the award. The video starts with J-Hope thanking the ARMY for letting them take home the trophy four years in a row. RM is then heard saying "We think this award is living proof that no matter where in the world, ARMY and BTS stay so close and connected." Suga then says that this award is a collection of the fans' efforts. V ends the speech by saying "Big thanks to you again ARMY and the Billboard Music Awards!"

Additionally, BTS was nominated for Top Duo/Group. However, they ultimately lost to the Jonas Brothers. They were up against Dan + Shay, Maroon 5, and Panic! at the Disco.

BTS first won the Top Social Artist award in 2017. This is the first time a K-pop group has won a Billboard Music Award, with PSY being the first Korean soloist to do so back in 2014. When they accepted their first award, the boys thanked their fans, the ARMY, and dedicated the award to people all around the world that shine the love and light on them. They subsequently won the award again in 2018 and 2019.
