On October 18, Sunday, at 3 PM KST, SEVENTEEN held a question and answer (Q&A) with #TwitterBlueRoom to promote the release of their upcoming special album "; [Semicolon]" on October 19, Monday. There, leader S.Coups revealed that he is considering changing his stage name.
During the live stream, S.Coups revealed he has major concerns with his stage name. He revealed that despite how long he has been in the industry, people continue to get his stage name wrong. Because of that, he is currently debating whether he should change his stage name to simply Coups instead.
S.Coups himself chose his stage name. The S in S.Coups stands for his real name, Sungcheol. Coups refer to the French phrase, "coup d'état", which literally translates to "blow of state".
Coups is a nickname that fans and even the members call S.Coups. While he said that he enjoys the fun nicknames he receives from fans and online netizens, his concern stems from when he does official events and activities and people get his name wrong due to how difficult it is to remember. He revealed that whenever someone gets his name wrong, even if he has been active as an idol for five years, he can't help but get upset.
Many Korean netizens were shocked to find that S.Coups wants to change his stage name. When an online community forum concerning S.Coups and his stage name went viral, numerous Korean netizens begged the idol not to change his stage name. Read some of their comments here:

S.Coups is a South Korean singer and rapper. In 2015, he debuted as the leader of SEVENTEEN under PLEDIS Entertainment. He is part of the group's Hip-Hop Unit.
S.Coups trained for six years before debuting with SEVENTEEN. He was originally made to debut in NU'EST, but was cut from the line-up. He was then put in the line-up of NU'EST's brother group Tempest, but the debut plan was scrapped.
Prior to his debut, S.Coups featured in After School Rania's solo song "Superwoman". He also after in After School Blue's music video for "Wonder Boy" and NU'EST's music video for their debut song "FACE".
