SEVENTEEN's Hoshi has done a good deed to his beloved alma mater.
On October 29, a representative from Maseok High School in Gyeonggi Province revealed that the male idol has donated a total of 23.1 million won (nearly $20,370) for the said school's scholarship fund.
Parents of Hoshi were the ones who delivered the donation on his behalf, and they said that it was not easy for their son to carry out his education due to the fact that they were not rich enough to support his educational needs. They shared, "Thanks to the consideration shown by the principal and his homeroom teacher, he was able to graduate and achieve his dreams."
They also stated that Hoshi suggested using his donation in helping students who belong to families that have financial problems in order for them to reach their dreams. Apart from that, SEVENTEEN Hoshi also gifted the members of the high school's dance club with SEVENTEEN CDs.
While this is the first time that the male artist was reported to have donated to his high school alma mater, Hoshi is giving donation to Maseok High School continuously without letting the public know, according to the school principal Kim Byung. "We hope that Hoshi's sincere donation will be made widely known and have a positive influence on the students," he added.
Hoshi completed his high school years in 2013. At present, he attends school at Dong-Ah Institute of Media and Arts while actively participating as a SEVENTEEN member. The artist is pursuing a K-pop performance major at the institute's Division of Entertainment in Broadcasting.
During his high school days, SEVENTEEN Hoshi formed a dance crew called 'Deep Blue' that once participated in a dance competition in Namyangju (Hoshi's hometown) in 2011 and won first place. At this event, he got noticed by a Pledis Entertainment casting member who eventually invited him to join the agency. He then trained for four years before debuting as a SEVENTEEN member on May 26, 2015, through a live showcase.
SEVENTEEN Hoshi's real name is Kwon Soonyoung. His stage name 'Hoshi' means 'gaze of the tiger,' and it was created by merging two Korean words: horang (tiger) and shison (gaze). The male artist was the one who formed his stage name as he feels that he transforms into a tiger whenever he performs on stage.
He is one of the main dancers of the K-Pop boy group SEVENTEEN. Also, Hoshi is the leader of the group's performance team, plus he choreographs most of SEVENTEEN's songs. In particular, Hoshi was the one who created the dance steps for one of the group's iconic track "Don't Wanna Cry. Not to mention, he is the reason why the group is one of the most synchronized K-Pop acts.
In other news, SEVENTEEN made a comeback with their special album titled "; [semicolon] along with the title track "HOME;RUN. The album made headlines before it was officially released following the report that more than a million copies were already sold.
Moreover, the K-pop boy group recently earned the 'Prime Minister's commendations' at the 2020 Korean Popular Culture & Arts Awards.
