In August 2014, the actor/singer's ex-girlfriend provided evidence to support her abuse and mental torment claims. She also claimed that the actor had been consistently beating her, causing wounds and broken ribs. The K-pop singer immediately denied the charges saying he had only harmed Choi once and that it was a mishap that happened while he was rehearsing combative techniques for a shoot.
Choi dropped a portion of the charges against the actor in September after releasing a public apology. Nonetheless, he was later fined $4,510 for harming her. Although he had no intention of hurting her, the wounds were enough evidence to charge him, according to the attorneys.
Surprisingly, the charge was later repealed in 2016 when the court absolved the singer because of the evidence gathered that disproved Choi's claims. These include instant messages, articulations by the head of Dispatch (the newspaper to which Choi gave her proof), and the clinics' assertions.
In February 2015, a magazine reported that Joong and Choi had reconciled and that they will be having a baby. But then again, the former expressed via a public statement that he had not seen Choi since she revealed to him that she was pregnant in January and couldn't affirm that he was the father.
In May 2015, Choi again filed another charge him, asking for $1.48 million because of the mental torment while in a relationship. She also added that the singer's maltreatment caused the miscarriage in 2014.
Kim later filed and won a $90,201 counter-suit against her for tarnishing his image, as the court decided in favor of the singer since there was no enough evidence of the alleged pregnancy. Even after the case was dismissed, Choi still filed for an appeal.
In December 2015, a paternity test revealed that Joong was the father of her baby, who was allegedly born in September of 2015. Once more, prosecutors filed criminal charges against Choi for attempted fraud and defamation in January 2017. Then in February 2018, she was fined $4,510.
On Thursday, Nov. 12, the Supreme Court requested Choi to pay the actor $90,201 for damages. The court finally decided based on the first and second preliminary hearings, wherein evidence opposed the maltreatment claim that resulted in a miscarriage.
Although it is finally over, the five-year lawsuit had made some damages affected the actor's public's image and ruined his career. With that, his ex-girlfriend was held responsible for defamation.
Meanwhile, Kim Hyun Joong recently made his comeback on Oct. 19 with his studio album, "A Bell Of Blessing." The singer has previously captivated the public with his original music, such as "At the Stand," "WHY," and "HAZE." In this album, fans were highly interested in the emotions and messages that the singer conveyed.
On Feb. 5, he also released a full-length Japanese album titled "The Moon, The Sun and Your Song," which debuted at number three on the Oricon Daily Albums Chart and Number 4 at Oricon Weekly Albums Chart. He also embarked on a two-month (February and March) Japan tour of the same name. On Feb. 21, he appeared on the cover of the Korean Wave Japanese Magazine Hanryu Pia for the fourth time.
Fans are happy that Kim Hyun Joong's legal problems have been resolved, and he can truly restart his career once more!
