MAMAMOO Hwasa has attained a remarkable achievement!
On Nov. 15, the music video for the singer's track titled "Maria" hit 100 million views on YouTube. This becomes Hwasa's first solo MV to obtain such a breakthrough. To celebrate the achievement, Hwasa shared some behind-the-scenes pictures from the filming of her solo MV, with the caption, "MARIA 100MILLION" on Instagram. She also expressed her gratitude to the staff, MAMAMOO members, and the group's fans, MooMoo.
The single "Maria" serves as the title track of MAMAMOO Hwasa's first solo extended play, entitled "Maria." The singer took part in the song's composition along with producer Park Woo Sang, displaying her growth as a singer-songwriter. Besides "Maria," the female idol also wrote the lyrics for "LMM" and composed the track "Why" - both are included in her first solo EP.

Hwasa also talked about the lyrical inspiration for the album's title track of the same name. She shared that the single is about the conflict that takes place within one's personality. "It's about the dispute between picking which side to be. If you're too kind, you end up being taken advantage of. But you don't want to become a bad person, either," MAMAMOO Hwasa stated. The idol said that the message behind the song is not to waste one's energy on struggling with that inner conflict and that a person is amazing just by being herself. Hwasa claimed that to overcome the hardship is through accepting oneself. There's a part in the single that says, "Why are you doing so much? You're already beautiful," which the artist really likes.
MAMAMOO Hwasa made her solo debut in February 2019 with the digital track entitled "Twit." She participated in the lyric-writing process and composition of the song.
