[WATCH] ColorTheBen Releases 'Green Love' Music Video

Korea's rising hip-hop artist, ColorTheBen, has released the music video for his latest single, "Green Love," continuing to make waves in the local hip-hop community.

"Green Love" is the latest track from the up-and-coming artist. ColorTheBen first made his debut with "MITM" (Man in the Mirror), released last September 2019. Maintaining his unique rap style coupled with his cold, calming vocals, the up-and-coming artist worked with fellow Korean hip-hop artist Urban Fisher in bringing this new track.

The latest track from ColorTheBen and Urban Fisher is a part of the album "Green," released last November 2. It has two tracks - "Green Love" and "High Livin'." Where "Green Love" dwells on the emptiness, misery, and loneliness of losing a loved one, "High Livin'" seems to spell out the wonders of living free and loving free. Audio-only versions of both tracks are available on the 88 LAND YouTube channel - with both tracks featuring the cover art of a yellowish-green plant over a moss green background. Meanwhile, fans can stream the album on all major music streaming platforms - Amazon Music, Apple Music, Spotify, and more.

His "Green" album follows his earlier album "Blue," released last July 2020. Similarly, Blue has two tracks - "Ocean Drive" and "Friend." Using colors as musical themes reflect in the chill sound found in both tracks, with "Ocean Drive," being a great song for driving out of the city and heading out to the nearest seaside spot.

He has also appeared in Aoora's single "82 Call Me." ColorTheBen flips the bubbly yet suggestive track with his verse, a rap stanza against low and heavy beats. Even the colorful visuals from Aoora's parts in the song transform into a dark office space, with the "Green Love" artist at its center.

A Darker Shade of Green

The short music video runs at 2 minutes and 14 seconds, drawing listeners into the track with its mellow yet catchy beats. With an overall audio aesthetic reminiscent of 88 Rising artists like Joji or Jackson Wang, or the brand of rap similar to those by the late Juice WRLD, ColorTheBen creates a world within the song.

His words in the song also perfectly explain the visual and design choices. "Green Love" describes the misery of longing for a lover with lines like "Might call you up in late night; don't pick up 'cause it's not right."

Lastly, wrapping the entire track in a neat package is the music video released on the 88 LAND YouTube Channel last November 12. It follows the rapper supposedly lost and empty, pining for a lover while surrounded by the usual party implements like alcohol and cigarettes. Even with its mature props - like bongs and contraceptives- and psychedelic transitions between scenes, the most interesting item in the music video has to be the potted plant that accompanies ColorTheBen in most scenes.

From a chill road trip buddy to those late-night sober recollections, ColorTheBen is shaping up to be a versatile artist with his varying themes. Watch the music video for "Green Love" below:
