Julius Richard Petri Google Doodle Launched to Celebrate 160th Birthday of the ‘Petri Dish’ Inventor’

So, here is another fun thing recently created and released by Google --- the Julius Richard Petri Google Doodle.

Just visit Google Homepage and be amazed with the newest Google Doodle created to celebrate the 160th birthday of Julius Richard Petri, the inventor of one of the most important scientific tools, the petri dish. The animated Google logo is now made of petri dishes growing various kinds of moulds. The Julius Richard Petri Google Doodle was launched in Google's Homepage worldwide this Friday, May 31, the birthday of the inventor. Julius Richard Petri was born in Barmen on May 31, 1853 and he died at the age of 69.

With the animated Google Doodle involving petri dishes, the giant internet company pays tribute to the significant contribution of the german bacteriologist, Julius Richard Petri, in the world of science and bacteriology. Julius Richard Petri was working as an assistant before to Robert Koch who was regarded as the Father of Modern Bacteriology. Petri discovered the petri dish while he was working in a hospital in Berlin. He was able to invent the shallow cylindrical laboratory glassware currently known as petri dish in the year 1877. Petri dish is mainly used by microbiologists to grow cell cultures. This laboratory tool is also being referred to as petri plate of cell culture dish.

The Interactive Julius Richard Petri Google Doodle has the letters of the word "GOOGLE" changed with petri dishes. After pressing the play button, a hand appears to swab the petri dishes and after which, Google Doodle users can watch as the different bacteria grows. When an online user hover the arrow to a certain petri dish, the source of the mould will pop up letting the user determine the bacteria's host.
