At a time of distancing and isolation, Korean indie hitmaker Land of Peace has released its timely new double single, "Thank You, See You Tomorrow" and "Jenny," on December 3.
In "Thank You, See You Tomorrow," the band used the titular greeting to share hope and the near-certainty of meeting again, whether it be friends or something else. The pop-infused alt-rock reminds us of chill, unassuming tracks such as those of 90s American indie bands. Meanwhile, "Jenny" is an equally chill song that features the band's psychedelic and British pop influences.
Land of Peace, Back Again
The simultaneous release of "Thank You, See You Tomorrow" and "Jenny" marks the reunion of Land of Peace's original lineup following the discharge of its two guitarists who have just completed their respective mandatory services. Land of Peace is composed of its vocalist Won-jun Won, guitarists Lee Gyeong-Seok and Kim Min-Seok, bassist Park Dong-min, and drummer Harry.
Land of Peace first gained a significant following with its calming indie-rock sound captured in its second EP "Life in Timog," released back in 2018. The name of the extended play album is a reference to "Timog Park," which roughly translates to "South Park," a village in the Philippines where some members of Land of Peace first met and grew up together. Drawing from strong feelings of nostalgia, as well as addressing issues of frustration, Land of Peace began to establish their distinct sound - tropical rock with pop elements further fused with psychedelic and Britpop sounds. With these elements, the band pursues an image of primal peace - a serene beachside life, with the world's worries swept away just as rolling tides ebb and flow on the shore.
After a year of touring and performing, two of its members - both guitarists - enlisted in the South Korean army in 2019. The band continued as a duo, releasing the EP "Underground." The members marked their reunion with the release of the two new singles.
A Re-Energized Comeback in the Middle of the Pandemic
In a statement from the band's label, Ruby Records, the new tracks reflect the group's efforts to escape preconceptions attached to genre labels such as "rock" or indie." This results to the brighter pop mix heard in "Thank You, See You Tomorrow." The band further experiments with "Jenny," whose messages of love and longing is a refreshing addition to the band's tropic, relaxing repertoire.
Despite launching their comeback efforts in the middle of the pandemic, Land of Peace still manages to get its message across thanks to the band and Ruby Records' increasingly accessible online channels - YouTube music videos and vlogs, and the group's social networking sites. The song "Thank You, See You Tomorrow" is a timely song of hope at a time when people can not openly meet each other, the same as the band member's are currently restricted in doing live shows and meeting the fans who have been with them since they began their music journey.
