Big Hit Entertainment has decided to cancel the offline performance event of its joint concert "2021 New Year's Eve Live."
Last November, Big Hit announced that they will conduct a joint performance on New Year's Eve presented by Weverse, and it will feature all artists under the label and its affiliates for the very first time. The event will be held as both an online live broadcast and offline (in-person) performance event at the same time on Thursday, Dec. 31 at 9:30 p.m. KST.
The offline performance, which will be livestreamed, is revealed to be held at KINTEXT Exhibition Center 1 in Goyang City. Limited seating will only be available due to the seat-spacing guidelines, which are part of the government's COVID-19 prevention measures.
However, on Dec. 7, Big Hit Entertainment has eventually canceled the offline event of the "New Year's Eve Live" concert. According to the label, the social distancing stage in South Korea has risen due to the rapid spread of COVID-19. "For the safety of the artists and fans, we decided to cancel the offline performance of the concert," the company stated.
Because of this, the joint concert will then be conducted through online livestreaming without any audience. "We deeply apologize to fans who have been looking forward to the offline performance. We ask for your understanding as this decision was made to ensure a safe environment by complying with the government's health guidelines," the entertainment agency added.
"2021 New Year's Eve Live" presented by Weverse is the very first joint concert to be held by Big Hit Entertainment after merging and acquiring Source Music in July 2019 and Pledis Entertainment last May of this year. The event will be broadcast on JTBC for a total of 45 minutes, which will display the New Year's countdown and some performances by the artists.
At the upcoming concert, Big Hit's world-renowned artists BTS, TOMORROW X TOGETHER (TXT), and Lee Hyun will be present. Source Music's GFRIEND and Pledis Entertainment's NU'EST and BUMZU will attend the event as well. BELIFT LAB's rookie group ENHYPEN was also revealed to perform at the NYE Concert. On the other hand, Pledis's SEVENTEEN will not be able to make it as the boy group already has a scheduled activity for that day and the label couldn't reschedule it.
In addition, the upcoming "2021 New Year's Eve Live" concert will connect not only the K-Pop artists but also various fandoms from all around the world. It will serve as a tribute to late iconic singer Shin Hae Chul. Not to mention, a collaboration stage between Shin and Big Hit artists will be done through holograms created with artificial intelligence (AI) technology. In particular, they will perform late Hae Chul's hit songs "What Do You Really Want" and "To You."
Furthermore, Big Hit's concert goes with the theme "We've Connected" and will feature music and performances under four themes: "WE," "RE," "NEW," and "2021 Concert." Besides the main stages, there will be a meet and greet, which will be held through livestreaming.
