TWICE heard fans' wish following their stage at 2020 MAMA and now the group will be giving what they have asked for.
At the 2020 Mnet Asia Music Awards (MAMA) last Dec. 6, TWICE was one of the K-Pop groups who took the stage and gave a breathtaking performance. The girl group sang their popular songs "More & More" and "I Can't Stop Me." While fans expect the band to deliver their released songs at the awards ceremony, TWICE surprisingly performed their yet-to-be-released single titled "Cry For Me."
During the female act's acceptance speech for the "Most Popularity Artist" award, TWICE stated that they revealed the track for the first time as they want to send some healing energy to the fans and viewers. "We wanted to be that energy in the midst of the exhausting situation we're in right now," the group said.
Because of the remarkable never-seen-before performance and explosion of stunning visuals, ONCE couldn't be any more pleasantly surprised. Fans were so in love with the track that they took to Twitter to express their joy. The song and some of TWICE members' names were trending on Twitter during 2020 MAMA. "CRY FOR ME," "WE CHOOSE TWICE," "#TWICEatMAMA," as well as "nayeon," "jihyo," and "CHAEYOUNG" were the keywords that trended following the girl group's stage at the ceremony.
Ever since that day, ONCE (TWICE's fan club) has been asking for an official release of "Cry For Me" from the band's management agency, JYP Entertainment. But, fans don't have to wait any longer as TWICE, on Dec. 8, has announced that they will be launching the song soon as a pre-release track, which they dedicate for ONCE. Considering that it will be a pre-release, the single could possibly be included in TWICE's new album next year. More details about the release are yet to be revealed.
Meanwhile, TWICE received two awards at the 2020 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA). They claimed one of the trophies for the "Worldwide Fans' Choice Top 10," along with BLACKPINK, MAMAMOO, GOT7, BTS, SEVENTEEN, NCT, TXT, ATEEZ, and TREASURE. And as previously mentioned, TWICE took home the "Most Popular Artist" award.
In other news, all TWICE members and staff members of JYP Entertainment have undergone testing for COVID-19 on Dec. 7 after TWICE's Sana crossed paths with Kim Chungha who was recently revealed to test positive for the coronavirus. On that same day, the label announced that TWICE members all received negative results.
However, Sana will be in self-quarantine for ten days as per the health authority's guidelines until Dec. 18, while the rest of the members will carry out their schedules as planned. The other members will be attending the 2020 The Fact Music Awards on Dec. 12.
It was reported that Sana had recently come into close contact with Chungha when the two met, alongside Cosmic Girls' Yeonjung, for dinner on Dec. 4. Like Sana, Yeonjung was also tested for COVID-19 and is currently undergoing self-quarantine. Also, Yeonjung is still waiting for her test results.
