Arashi MV producers are currently embroiled in allegations of plagiarism from DAY6's fandom, My Day, upon noticing the resemblance of the Japanese boy band's "Face Down: Reborn" music video to DAY6's "Zombie."
Recently, online communities and social networking services have made headlines with comments pointing out that the music videos of the two well-known idol groups are similar, then sparking a plagiarism controversy.
Arashi MV and DAY6 MV: Plagiarism Controversy
In particular, the lyrics music video of "Zombie" was released on May 21 and the new music video of Arashi's "Face Down: Reborn" was released on YouTube's official channel on June 26, a month later.
As DAY6 released the music video earlier than Arashi track's MV, fans and netizens are accusing Arashi's MV production team of copying the K-pop band.
My Day, the fandom of DAY6 is conveying their frustrations and disappointment in various social media accounts and communities, asking the MV directors to explain their sides.
In the photos, netizens called out the same concept that Arashi MV featured, and screenshots from the two MVs that resembled the most were also provided to prove their claims.
DAY6's MV Director Spoke about the Plagiarism Controversy
The music video's original creators released their official stand to the controversy, regarding the Japanese national idol group Arashi plagiarized the music video of Korean group DAY6.
INSP, the representative producer of the music video of DAY6's "Zombie," expressed their statement on Monday, Dec. 14, saying that prior to the controversy, there are a lot of messages from overseas fans in June that are informing them about the alleged plagiarism.
"I was surprised that the two music videos were so similar, and we had no choice but to comfort them by saying, 'We made a good video that was followed by the Japanese national idol.'"
"I indeed feel sorry for the fact that it's so similar to our production that I don't want to talk about anything other than JYP Entertainment's official position," said producer INSP and Suiko, when asked if they plan to protest the plagiarism of the Arashi music video.
They added, "Creating something as a creator cannot be 100% pure creation. In the past, some Korean works were suspected of plagiarism. I understand some things because I'm also inspired by existing videos, but I can't help but get upset when I find a similar video."
KOINRUSH is an animation-based studio run by creators named INSP and Suiko. He has produced several music videos and performance videos, including DAY6's "Zombie" lyric music video as well Ha Hyunsang's "3108" and Chung Ha's "Be Yourself."
Moreover, JYP Entertainment, the agency of the K-pop band, didn't directly address the issue, but they responded, "I have no position."
DAY6 is a Korean rock band that debuted under JYP Entertainment. They released "Zombie" on May 11 as the lead single of their EP, "The Book of Us: The Demon."
Meanwhile, Arashi, one of the biggest Japanese idol groups that debuted in 1999. They are one of the most influential figures in the country; however, it was reported that the group will be suspended as of Dec. 31 this year.
