Taking Dad Out For Father’s Day Most Popular Gift For 2013 According To Market Research Firm

If you were thinking of taking dad out to watch a game for Father's Day, you'll probably need some luck finding seats.

Special outings, like attending sporting events or dining out, are expected to account for the largest share of Father's Day spending this year, according to a recent study conducted by market research organization IBISWorld.

According to the group, special outings will contribute 18.8 percent of total holiday sales, up 3.5 percent from 2012. A total of approximately $2.48 billion will be spent on bringing fathers around the country to restaurants and athletic games.

Trailing just behind sporting events, spending on books, personal care products and sporting goods is expected to generate $2.44 billion in spending this year, slated to encounter a 1.9 percent increase from last year.

While spending on clothing and automotive accessories is projected to decrease this year, experiencing $1 billion and $56 million drops respectively, spending on home improvement tools and electronics is expected to increase significantly, according to IBISWorld.

Overall, Americans are expected to spend a total of $13.2 billion on Father's Day this year, which is 2.1 percent higher than last year, signaling a bounce back in the economy and consumer spending.

Perhaps the most unwaveringly purchased gift, expecting to encounter no changes in spending from last year, are gift cards - a mainstay of most celebrated holidays.

Approximately $1.73 billion was spent on gift cards last year and the same amount is project to be spent this year, according to IBISWorld.
