Girls' Generation's Sooyoung recently hinted at the possibility that the group might make a comeback in the K-pop scene, which fans have been anticipating for a long time now.
On Dec. 18, Girls' Generation's Sooyoung appeared at Eun Ji's Gayo Plaza not as a guest but as a temporary DJ while Apink's Eunji was gone on vacation. During the radio show, the female idol answered some questions from incoming callers. A particular caller mentioned Girls' Generation's activities and asked about the girl group's comeback timing.
To this, Sooyoung replied, "To our fans who are growing together with us, are you doing well? We'll be sure to greet you soon." Although Sooyoung did not give an exact answer, SONEs (Girls' Generation's fan club) considered her answer as a hint at a possible comeback for the legendary female act.
Girls' Generation's last comeback was made by the sub-unit Girls' Generation-Oh!GG in September 2018. The sub-unit comprises members Taeyeon, Yoona, Sunny, Yuri, and Hyoyeon, and debuted with the single "Lil' Touch." The last comeback of Girls' Generation featuring all eight members was back in August 2017 when the group released its sixth Korean studio album titled "Holiday Night" in celebration of their tenth anniversary since debut.
At present, only five Girl's Generation members are being managed by SM Entertainment, specifically, Taeyeon, Yuri, Yoona, Sunny, and Hyoyeon. The other members, Tiffany, Seohyun, and Sooyoung, did not renew their contracts with SM following the launch of "Holiday Night" and signed with different agencies to focus on their solo music and acting careers.
Although the members are not under one label, the group is said not to be disbanded and its future activities as octet remain to be discussed. Hence, Girls' Generation is currently on indefinite hiatus with members carrying out solo activities. While the artists are doing their own projects, they never forget to take the time to meet each other. They can be seen posting photos together on social media often. In particular, the group got together to celebrate Tiffany's birthday and their 13th debut anniversary last August.
Regarding the solo activities of Girls' Generation members, Taeyeon has recently dropped the music video for "What Do I Call You," which is the title track of her new mini-album that shares the same name as the song. Yoona is currently starring in JTBC's "Hush," while Sooyoung in JTBC's newly-released "Run On." Meanwhile, Sunny has been appearing on various variety shows, including one episode of "On and Off" that was released this past November.
Hyoyeon previously competed in the reality show "Good Girl" and launched the songs "Dessert" and "Think About Me" this year. Yuri starred in the mini-drama titled "Breakup Probation, A Week," and she will also take the lead role in the upcoming historical drama "Bossam - Stealing Fate." While Tiffany is a soloist based in America at Paradigm Talent and recently appeared in a "What's in My Bag" video with Vogue Korea, Seohyun is currently playing the main role in JTBC's "Private Lives."
Girls' Generation debuted in August 2007 with the album "Into the New World." Initially a nine-member group, Jessica parted ways with the band in September 2014.
