IU Covers Late SHINee Jonghyun's 'Before Our Spring' In Honor of His Third Death Anniversary

Solo artist IU didn't forget about one of his best friends, late singer SHINee member Jonghyun, and gave a tribute to him during her recent concert.

The Korean pop soloist recently held a concert at home titled "Homebody Signal2," where she delivered several covers for her fans. Her angelic voice mesmerized everyone watching the event, but there was one particular song that really gained the attention of her viewers.

During the concert, some of the tracks IU performed are Jannabi's "For Lovers Who Hesitate" and "A Thought on an Autumn Night," as well as Sung Si Kyung's "Hee Jae" and Auli'I Cravalho's "How Far I'll Go," which is the theme song for the movie "Moana." The female idol also covered Ariana Grande's Christmas song "Santa Tell Me."

For the last song of her concert, IU surprisingly covered late SHINee Jonghyun's 2018 song "Before Our Spring," touching everyone's hearts. The track's melancholy melody and sad lyrics perfectly matched IU's voice as she sang it full of emotions. This year, Dec. 18 marked the third anniversary of SHINee Jonghyun's death, breaking fans' hearts once again. However, IU's tribute to the late singer provided a comforting and healing moment to the fans.

IU and SHINee Jonghyun were known to be close friends, with the female artist considering him as her best friend. Last December 2018, IU also paid an emotional tribute to her late friend during her 10th-anniversary concert in Singapore. Considering this, IU's recent cover of "Before Our Spring" comes as no surprise to fans. SHINee fans or SHAWOLs expressed their gratitude to the female solo artist, saying their thanks on IU's Instagram account.

Apart from IU, fans from around the world of late SHINee Jonghyun also honored his third death anniversary this year. In fact, fans have been paying tribute to this shining star each year since the male idol passed away at 27 on Dec. 18, 2017. Through social media, SHAWOLs shared cherished memories and expressed how much they miss the singer.

SHAWOLs and even other K-pop fandoms asked fans not to trend hashtags that are related to the KBS Song Festival out of respect for late SHINee Jonghyun. The 2020 KBS Song Festival also took place on the same day as the late singer's third death anniversary.

Furthermore, boy group SHINee, of course, also didn't forget about their beloved member. Through Twitter, the boy group posted a beautiful photo of Jonghyun performing on stage, along with the caption that reads, "I'll always love you." SHINee members Key and Minho also uploaded photos on their personal Instagram accounts with Jonghyun in it. Key wrote in the caption, "I miss you so much. I love you," while Minho wrote, "forever SHINee five."

Earlier this year, Instagram has officially "memorialized" the account of SHINee Jonghyun, as well as those of Sulli and Goo Hara. This means the social networking platform acknowledges that the accounts' users have passed away but keeps the accounts active for viewing as a place to remember and commemorate someone's life after their passing.
