The Korean Cultural Center Washington, DC (KCCDC) is set to host a virtual Year-End Concert with musicians of the New York Philharmonic - fusing classical, holiday, and Korean music to welcome the new year in style!
Renowned musicians with the New York Philharmonic including cellist Carter Brey, and violinists Su Hyun Park, Dasol Jeong, and Jin Suk Yu. They will be accompanied by pianist Jun Cho and pianist and composer James Ra, who will be in charge of the arrangement.
As the final activity for the 2020 K-Classic series, the KCCDC Year-End Concert will share and highlight the outstanding talents of South Korean artists on the international stage, all while recognizing their contributions to a world-class orchestra such as the New York Philharmonic.
Music fans will be treated to a concert program filled with both classics and original arrangements. Featured musicians will be playing the "Vivaldi Concerto for Four Violins and Cello in B minor," "Vivaldi & Piazzolla: Winter," and the modern Christmas classic "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas." In celebration of Korean talents taking the global stage, the concert will also feature a rendition of the Korean folk song "Arirang."

About the Musicians at the 2020 KCCDC Year-End Concert
Carter Brey has been the principal cellist of the New York Philharmonic since 1996 and serves as the cellist for the Philharmonic's String Quartet, a subunit that made its debut in March 2017. However, he first rose to international acclaim as early as 1981, as a prizewinner in the prestigious Rostropovich International Cello Competition.
The Seoul, South Korea-born Michelle Kim moved to the US with her family when 11 and soon started her violin studies. Kim was a senior high at Crossroads School for Arts and Sciences when she was awarded a Presidential Scholarship, continuing her studies with Robert Lipsett at the USC Thornton School of Music under the Starling Foundation scholarship. She soon joined the New York Philharmonic in 2001 as its Assistant Concertmaster, The William Petschek Family Chair.
Violinist Su Hyun Park previously served as assistant concertmaster for the Grant Park Symphony Orchestra, the Music Alps Festival Orchestra, Juilliard Orchestra, New York Classical Players, and Music Academy of the West Orchestra before the New York Philharmonic in September 2017. Also a Seoul native, Park continued her music studies at The Juilliard School, where she also earned her bachelor's and master's degrees.
Dasol Jeong, also a decorated violinist, joined the Philharmonic in 2019 while working on her music degree from the Manhattan School of Music. Her awards include third prize at the Mykola Lysenko International Music Competition, Canadian Music Competition, and the first prize at the Oleh Krysa International Violin Competition.
Jin Suk Yu joined the New York Philharmonic as a violinist in January 2015. previously performing with the symphony orchestras of Chicago, Pittsburgh, and Atlanta. From 2011 to 2013, Yu led the Juilliard Orchestra and Verbier Festival Orchestra as its concertmaster and other principal positions.
Lastly, Jun Cho is a pianist with both solo and chamber music experience in the United States, Italy, Spain, and Korea. He is recently active in the New York music scene, performing in its most esteemed venues: Cargenie Hall, Merkin Hall, and the Alice Tully Hall in Lincoln Center.
