Dane Cook Pulls 'Boston Strong' Benefit Concert Performance To Protect 'New Material' [Video]

Boston's much-maligned comedian, Dane Cook, pulled the live stream and video of his performance during the "Boston Strong" event to raise money for the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings because he didn't want his new material to be made public.

Fans and foes took to Twitter to denounce the comedian for the poor timing of the move.

The recent "Boston Strong" performance at Boston's TD Garden was sold out on Thursday night as entertainers from all over showbiz gathered to perform.

The event, entitled: "Boston Strong: An Evening of Support and Celebration," was loaded with all sorts of celebrities including, but not limited to: NKOTB, Aerosmith, Boston, James Taylor and Carole King, the J. Geils Band, Jimmy Buffett, Jason Aldean, and comedians Dane Cook and Steven Wright all worked for free Thursday.

But Cook was the only one to pull his performance from the live stream of the event and any subsequent videos.

The reason? Because the 41-year-old comedian from Cambridge didn't want any of his new material to be televised, just yet.

Dane Cook took to Twitter to explain to his fans why his performance among everyone else's wasn't streamed live, televised, or during replays of the event at Boston.com or other outlets.

Said Cook via Twitter, "Hey everyone sorry my set was not a part of the live stream or televised! I didn't want any of the new material to hit the airwaves yet!

The exclamation point heavy announcment on Twitter as to why Cook's set wasn't included had the opposite effect Cook intended. Fans were pissed with many calling Cook out on Twitter.

To add insult to injury and to further excerbate the streaming problems many experienced when they tried to watch the event, Cook later tweeted: "I can't wait to share it soon! The event was so meaningful and special. One of the best nights of my life."

It would have been nice for fans watching at home if they'd got to experience Cook's set too, but he had to protect his new act. This comes despite a long-held view in comedy circles that Cook steals jokes from other comedians.

Louis CK has opined on Cook's plagarism of comedians a few times, and it makes Cook's move that much more hypocritical, especially considering why everyone performed at the benefit, gratis.

Dane Cook's decision wasn't funny to many and it might have alienated any of the fans he has left.
