Gallup Korea Announces Top 10 'Songs of the Year' + IU's 'Eight', Zico's 'Any Song' are Selected

The most anticipated Gallup Korea rankings finally unveiled the top K-pop songs that triumphed this year, and indeed, the mega-hit tracks, IU's "Eight," Zico's "Any Song," BTS "Dynamite" and more topped the list!

On Dec. 21, Gallup Korea, one of the most relevant organizations for analytics and consumers trend then again released their rankings for Korean artists, celebrities, songs, etc. that earned the most interest this 2020.

The survey was conducted all throughout Kore excluding Jeju, having total respondents of 5,100 people aged 13 years old and above. In particular, 2,401 respondents aged 13-39, while 2,699 people who answered the survey, were over 40 years old.

The survey period was divided into three periods, starting from July 2-22, September 17 to October 20, and November 5-29.

Top 10 "Song of the Year" Selected by Respondents Aged below 39

Among the top 10 songs in their 30s and below, BTS English track, "Dynamite" came as No. 1 with 19.6% votes.

"Dynamite" who topped Billboard's "Hot 100" three times didn't just prove its global popularity, but showed the loved and support it received from South Korea as well.

BTS, a seven-membered group which is currently considered as the "biggest boy band in the world," also reigned as "Singer of the Year" by Gallup.

Next, IU's "Eight," co-performed and produced by BTS Suga ranked second place with 7.6% votes. IU was also chosen as " Singer of the Year" after BTS.

Meanwhile, HWASA's "Maria" which received hot responses claimed the third spot with 5.8% votes, followed by Zico's "Any Song" with 5.0% votes.

The two were undoubtedly loved and well-received by music fans, becoming a dance craze and trend on social media platforms, particularly on TikTok.

Moving on, BLACKPINK's "Lovesick Girls" entered the top 5, with 3.9% votes.

"Lovesick Girls" is the lead track of the quartet's first full-length album, "THE ALBUM."

Lastly, Lim Young Woong's "Trust in Me," (3.7%) Jessi's " NUNU NANA,"(3.4%) BTS "Boy With Luv," (3.4%) "BLACKPINK's " How You Like That," (3.2%) and Young Tak's "Jjiniya" (3.1%) completed the Top 10, ranking sixth place to tenth place, respectively.

Gallup Korea's "Top 10 Songs" 40s and Above

Among the top 10 songs in their 40s and older, Lim Young Woong's "Trust in Me" (10.1%), Young Tak's "Jjiniya" (9.5%), Na Hoon Ah's "Mr. Tes" (8.8 %), Jin Sung's "At Andong Station" (6.3%), "Lee Chan Won's " Jinttopagi" (5.9%) were the most loved songs this year.

From 2007 to 2014, there were no trot songs in the top 10 songs of the year. From 2015 to 2017, two songs were recorded each year, three songs in 2018, and six songs in 2019. It is difficult to compare directly since it is divided into those in their 30s and over 40s starting this year, but many of the top 10 preferred songs by respondents in their 40s and older are trot songs in 2020.

Gallup Korea then explained the diversity of choices of the respondents saying, "Most music sites these days can easily find and listen to songs sung on music entertainment shows, and there are various list of songs such as singers, albums, genres, streaming, and download rankings, helping to break the boundaries of the old."
