BTOB member Ilhoon is being accused of purchasing and being a habitual user of marijuana, according to the police. He is currently under investigation. Keep on reading to learn more.
According to an exclusive sport via Channel A and Sports Donga, Ilhoon was brought after being suspected of habitual drug usage. The case was first sent to prosecution in July of this year.
The report states, "The police have confirmation through testimonies and account tracking that BTOB's Ilhoon has smoked marijuana numerous times with his peers, starting from 4-5 years ago and has smoked as recently as last years.
Traces of the drug was also detected through hair samples via a drug test.
We have our hands on enough evidence that prove that Jung Ilhoon did not purchase the marijuana with cash, but with cryptocurrency in an attempt to avoid being called for any investigation.
There is more controversy regarding this issue since he joined the military during his investigation."
After news broke out about Jung Ilhoon and his usage of marijuana, CUBE Entertainment released a statement saying that there were unaware of the situation involving their artist and drugs. They did, however, mention that his enlistment was originally scheduled for March but was delayed until May due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Jung Ilhoon entered the army training center on May 8 and underwent four weeks of basic military training. Currently, he is working as a social service worker in Yangpyeon.
Following the virality of the news, it was revealed that Jung Ilhoon had admitted that he habitually smoked marijuana during the police investigation. He was originally caught after police arrested a group of people who traded virtual currency for drugs last year. One of the people had snitched on Jung Ilhoon to the police for a reduced sentence.
It was then revealed that Jung Ilhoon had deposited cash to his acquaintance through a borrowed-name account. The acquaintance would then convert the money into virtual currency and buy marijuana. Jung Iloon's transaction details were revealed during the account tracking process.
A source close to Ilhoon has stated that the idol acknowledges the marijuana charges against him and is currently reflecting on his actions. He also feels sorry for the damage he has brought to his group and team, BTOB.
CUBE Entertainment has also released a statement, saying:
"After checking with Jung Ilhoon ourselves, we can confirm that he has been summoned by an investigative force for smoking marijuana, as previously reported.
We feel a heavy responsibility for causing so many people concern, and we will duty our duty and faithfully participate in future investigations until the end. We apologize again for causing so many people to worry."
Ilhoon made his debut with BTOB in 2012. In 2015, he made his debut as an actor in the web-drama "Webtoon Hero: Tundra Show". He is known not only as a member of BTOB but for featuring on HyunA's song "Roll Deep (Because I'm The Best)", from her album"A+", which he helped produce.
He debuted as a soloist in Feb. 2018 with the album "Big Wave". Prior to debuting as a soloist, he had a composed track for BTOB's "Piece of BTOB" solo project. The title of the song he composed is "Fancy Shoes." His most recent release was in Feb. 2019, when he dropped the digital single "Spoiler (feat. Babylon)".
