BUDY Surprises Fans With Her Portuguese in Cover of Iza's 'Dona de Mim'

Korean singer-songwriter BUDY surprises fans around the world with her cover of Iza's hit single "Dona de Mim," a Portuguese-language song.

Uploaded on BUDY's YouTube channel on Monday, December 21, the cover video features the Korean singer performing in a studio setup, with the original lyrics included. According to a statement from Slow Town Music, BUDY's record label, the cover is her "early Christmas gift" for her Brazilian fans. It is her way of showing love and recognition for the support she enjoys in the South American nation.

"Brazilian fans are giving me a lot of support on my social networks. This cover is a gift, but my dream is to meet them in person in Brazil," BUDY said in a statement.

The Korean artist gave her own spin on the song, adding a touch of jazz with her unique vocals to the R&B/ Soul hit. With the empowering lyrics of the song, "Dona de Mim" (or "Owner of Myself") fits right into BUDY's repertoire, with her songs that tell of fighting against all odds and keeping one's individuality.

As a fan of South American artists, and music, Iza's "Dona de Mim" is not her first, and most definitely not her last. BUDY also previously revealed that she is a fan of the Mexican Latin pop group RBD, releasing a cover of their song "Salvame" ("Save Me" in Spanish) last September. She also admires Brazilian singer-songwriters Mallu Magalhães and Luan Santana.
