MOMOLAND's JooE shared how many auditions she attended and failed before she was finally accepted in MLD Entertainment.
On Dec. 23, MOMOLAND's JooE sat down for an interview with KPOP IDOL OLYMPIC. The singer was asked random questions, and at one point the interviewer asked, "Did you want to be a singer since you were young?" JooE started by sharing that she has always wanted to be a singer so she really worked hard. Since personal development is her goal, she went to vocal and dance academies when she was in middle school - despite her making a four-hour roundtrip. She lived in a city called Yangpyeong at that time.
MOMOLAND's JooE went on to share that while she was in middle school, she participated in every single audition she could find in the hopes of becoming part of a K-pop agency. However, she shared that she was rejected from all of them. The idol later revealed that she went to a total of 50 auditions through middle and high school, surprising the interviewer. JooE added that after she started high school, the first audition she attended was the one conducted by MLD Entertainment.
The MOMOLAND member was then asked whether she got hurt or depressed after all the rejections she had. She responded, "Those things don't really affect me. But I did feel angry. I'd tried really hard. I thought I was really good at what I did. I just thought 'Maybe we just have different styles.'" But even though she failed the auditions, JooE said that the casting agents gave her some positive feedback, saying she is bright and talented.
During the interview, she also shared that she applied to Hanlim Arts School and made her own CDs, and she was eventually accepted. Hanlim Multi Arts School is one of the most well-known education institutions in Korea for hopeful entertainers and its alumni list includes numerous K-pop idols such as Red Velvet's Yeri, ASTRO's Cha Eunwoo, Ong Seong Wu, and many more.
Furthermore, MOMOLAND's JooE shared the time when she auditioned for MLD Entertainment. She revealed that she reached the venue an hour early but she couldn't find a place to practice until she found a parking lot, where she ended up singing by herself and practicing her dance.
Lee Joo Won, commonly known as JooE, is the lead vocalist, lead dancer, lead rapper, and more of the girl group MOMOLAND. In 2016, she joined the company just a month before the reality survival show "Finding Momoland" started - it was the competition she participated in to become part of MLD's new girl group, which is now MOMOLAND. The female act made its debut in November 2016 with the mini-album titled "Welcome to Momoland."
This past October, the sextet released its third single album titled "Ready or Not," which includes the lead song of the same name. Written by PSY and White99, the track is described to be a "teen pop" dance song that has a saxophone hook, which will surely be stuck in anyone's head.
