$10,000 Found By 10-Year-Old In Hotel Room, Cash Given To Cops

$10,000 was found in a Kansas hotel room by a ten-year-old boy. The boy, Tyler Schaefer, discovered the wad of cash in the drawer of his hotel room on Saturday.

The boy and his father, Cody Schaefer, were staying in the Hilton Airport Hotel when Tyler Schaefer found the $10,00 stacked neatly in a drawer.

"I didn't know if it was real. I showed it to my dad and he said it was real," the boy said.

Tyler suddenly started yelling that he'd found some money. Cody thought he might have found a stray $10 or $20 bill...definetley not a whopping $10,000.

Cody Schaefer, a truck driver, described his son as being an explorer and says he is "very observant" about his surroundings...and in this case, it paid off in a totally unexpected way.

OK, it sort of paid off. The $10,000 has been turned over to police. Schaefer said it was simply too large a sum of money to keep.

Cody said they were stunned and "didn't know what to do at first". Authorities, too, were stunned.

Sergeant Randy Francis with the Kansas City Police Department said that the situation seems suspicious.

If no one comes forward to claim the money in seven months, the boy may get to keep the $10,000 he found.

Cody Schaefer knows that's not likely.

"We didn't have the money when we got there, so it doesn't change much," he said.

If the money does make its way back to them, though, he says he would put it straight into a college fund for his son.
