On Friday, Dec. 25, SBS held their annual "Gayo Daejun" music festival. There, Aespa's outfits raised eyebrows for being strange and questionable. Keep on reading for all the details.
On Dec. 25, Aespa appeared at the "2020 SBS Gayo Daejun" red carpet photo wall events. All the members were seen wearing matching mini dresses adorned with large sparkles. Each member got their own specific color.
Giselle was seen wearing an orange short-sleeved mini dress, with a gold earring that matched the golden bangles and sequins on her dress. She wore a black belt on her waist that matched her dress's black lace and her black mask. On the other hand, Winter was seen wearing a nude-peach asymmetrical mini dress with gold sequins and black lace accents. She is seen wearing a white mask and black and silver bangles.
Karina is the only member wearing a two-piece set. She is seen wearing a blue top, with one short sleeve and one long sleeve that exposes her shoulder, paired with a blue skirt. Her outfit is adorned with gold sequins, and she is seen with a layer of gold chain belts around her waist. She is seen wearing a white mask and gold earrings.
Ningning, on the other hand, is seen in a wine-colored mini dress with cut-outs by her shoulders. Her dress is adorned with plum-colored sequins, and she is seen with a gold chain belt around her waist. She is pictured wearing a white mask and gold earrings, and a necklace.
The girls are seen wearing the same outfits for their "Black Mamba" performance, just without the masks.
Aespa's stylist was slammed for giving the girls "plain and unattractive" outfits, with many saying that they deserve to be styled better, especially for one of the most important end-of-the-year music festivals. Others have said that the outfits Aespa wore for their music show promotions looked more flattering than their outfit for the "Gayo Daejun" and questioned why their stylist tried too hard to make them look unique.
Many people stated that they looked like martial artists in a Hollywood movie, while others said they were more reminiscent of warriors from the Joseon Dynasty period. A handful said that their outfits reminded them of the anime "Dragon Ball Z" or the TV show "Power Rangers." Still, Aespa's visuals were praised by the public, who claimed that they still shined despite the "tragic" styling.
This is not the first time Aespa's stylist was slammed for their questionable choices. For the red carpet event of the "2020 KBS Gayo Daechukje,". the stylist received backlash for dressing Aespa in what was considered messy and uncoordinated. The stylist was also accused of making the members look like they are from four different groups. However, it was later revealed that their clothes are from Givenchy and all the pieces are yet to be available for the public, leading people to speculate the outfit was gifted to them by the fashion house.
