2020 was a hard year for everyone, but the K-pop industry showed no signs of slowing down their hustle. To prove so, the Billboard Charts announced every number one on the World Albums Charts in 2020, and the list was absolutely dominated by K-pop artists. Keep on reading to see which albums made it tp the top!
The first album to hit number one on the World Albums chart in 2020 is SuperM's self-titled debut extended play. While it originally topped the said chart on Dec. 24, 2019, it maintained at the number one spot the next eight consecutive weeks, extending its stay at the top until Jan. 2020.
Additionally, the album also debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 charts, making SuperM the first Korean act to have a debut album hit number one!
The next three albums to have hit number one are both from BTS, with "Love Yourself: Answer", "Map of the Soul: Persona", and "Map of the Soul: 7." The former-most album, "Love Yourself: Answer," was released way back on July 16, 2018, but due to the popularity of all the singles, it was able to hit number one again in 2020.
"Map of the Soul: Persona" was released on April 12, 2019, and first hit number one on the said charts in July. The album is still well-loved today and had even hit number one again in 2020. The last album, "Map of the Soul: 7" was released on Feb. 21, 2020. The album peaked at number one that same month.
NCT 127's "Neo Zone" is the next album to have topped the World Albums chart. "Neo Zone" was released on March 6, 2020. The song topped the World Album Charts in early May and is their third overall chart-topped. It is also their longest top reign on the chart, sitting at number one for three weeks.
Suga's solo mixtape, under the alias Agust D, is the next album to have peaked at number on the World Albums Charts. "D-2" was released on May 22, 2020, and topped the said charts by June. Additionally, "D-2" peaked at number 11 on the Billboard 200.
SuperM makes their second appearance on this article with their second number one in the World Albums charts. "Super One" was released on Sept. 25, 2020. The album peaked at number one on Oct. 2020, making it their second chart-topped since their debut EP. Additionally, it debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 charts.
The first album to feature all 23 members of NCT, "NCT 2020 Resonance Pt. 1" also peaked at the World Albums chart. The said album was released on Oct. 12, 2020. The album peaked at the said position on the week of Oct. 331, rising from number six the previous week. It also topped the Independent Albums chart.
The next album to hit number one on the Billboard World Albums chart is from the only girl group on this list, BLACKPINK. Their first full-length studio album, "THE ALBUM" was released on Oct. 2, 2020. The album peaked at number one on the World Album Chart on Oct. 17, 2020. Additionally, it peaked at number two on the Billboard 200 chart.
TXT also had a number-one album this year with "Minisode: Blue Hour".The EP was released on Oct. 28, 2020. "Minisode: Blue Hour: topped the World Albums chart on Nov. 21, 2020 It also reached number one on the Top Album Sales Chart and debuted at number 25 on the Billboard 200.
The last K-pop album, and last album of the year in general, to hit number one on the Billboard World Albums chart is BTS's "Be," which was released on Nov. 20, 2020. "Be" peaked at number one on the said charts on Dec. 5, 2020, and maintained the position for the rest of the year. "Be" is their fourth album of the year to hit number one.
