Several K-Pop acts held online concerts on New Year's Day to give fans high-quality entertainment as the globe celebrated the arrival of 2021. Big Hit Entertainment, SM Entertainment, and MBC are among the agencies and television networks that organized K-pop concerts to kickstart the new year.
The "New Year's Eve Live" event of Big Hit Entertainment was a successful event, which transpired on Dec. 31, 2020. The virtual concert featured some of the biggest names in the K-Pop industry such as Tomorrow X Together or TXT, NU'EST, GFriend, ENHYPHEN, Lee Hyun, Bumzu and BTS.
Viewers, as per South China Morning Post, were even surprised when international pop artists like Steve Aoki, Lauv and Halsey conferred heart-warming performances during the said event. However, Big Hit Entertainment did not divulge the exact number of viewers who watched the "New Year's Eve Live" concert. The event was expected to have drawn millions of audience, especially with the large followings of the mentioned K-pop groups.
Baekhyun, EXO's main vocalist and SuperM's leader, also held a solo online concert on Jan. 3, 2021. He performed some songs from his upcoming self-titled Japanese solo album, scheduled to launch on Jan. 20.
His solo concert, titled "Beyond Live - Baekhyun: LIGHT," reportedly recorded over 110,000 viewers from 120 countries worldwide.
SM Entertainment, on the other hand, has been reported that its "SMTOWN LIVE: Culture Humanity" concert was able to draw more than 35 million streams from 186 countries around the globe. The star-studded event featured performances from WayV, TVXQ, SHINee Taemin, Super Junior D&E, Super Junior, SuperM, Red Velvet, NCT 127, NCT Dream, NCT, Kangta, Kai, Baekhyun, and Aespa.
The event even showed the return of Red Velvet as OT5 a year after Wendy took a temporary hiatus due to a serious injury. The virtual concert also featured disc jockeys namely Raiden, Ginzo, and Imlay.
MBC, for its part, held the 2020 "MBC Gayo Daejejeon: The Moment" on Dec. 31, 2020 at the MBC Dream Center in Ilsan. Some of the performers during the prestigious event were Rain, Park Jinyoung, NCT, MAMAMOO, Lim Young Woong, Song Ha X Henry, and Uhm Jung Hwa.
Meanwhile, avid followers of Jennie, Lisa, Rose and Jisoo should start preparing for the upcoming virtual concert of BLACKPINK on Jan. 31, 2021. The girls are expected to perform their chart-topping hits "Ice Cream," "How You Like That," "Lovesick Girls," "Boombayah" and "Kill This Love" in the said event.
To recall, BLACKPINK postponed "The Show" in December following the surge of COVID-19 cases in South Korea. The quartet took to social media to announce that the original plans had to be delayed to for safety reasons.
Rosé said, in a post, that she and her bandmates were hopeful to give BLINKs a good show before 2020 ends. However, BLACKPINK and the concert organizers were forced to delay it for the benefit of everyone. In the end, the songstress told her followers to take care of themselves amid the perils brought by the COVID-19 pandemic.
