Red Velvet Irene’s Return to the Public Eye Draws Mixed Reactions

On Friday, Jan. 1, Irene made her first public appearance with Red Velvet since her bad attitude scandal. Then, on Sunday, Jan. 2, the Red Velvet official Instagram account shared photos of the group, including Irene. As the female idol makes her return to the public eye, people are sharing divided opinions over her slowly promoting again.

On the first day 2021, Red Velvet performed for SMTOWN LIVE's "Culture Humanity" free online concert. There, the group promoted some of their biggest hits, including "Bad Boy," "Peek-a-Boo," and "Psycho." This stage was huge for ReveLuvs as it is the first time Wendy has performed "Psycho" for fans since her accident in 2019.

Unfortunately, it was different for Irene's participation in the concert. This has drawn both positive and negative reactions. Some fans had commented loving messages on both the live stream chat and Red Velvet's Instagram post, saying that they had missed Irene and warmly welcomed her return. During Irene's ment in the concert, she had wished everyone happiness and hoped their wishes would come true this 2021, and many people had wished the same for the singer as well.

Still, not everyone was happy. Many people had mentioned that Irene's bad attitude scandal happened only two months ago and criticized the idol for her quick return to the limelight. Many people called her shameless. The issue brought to light how important an idol's image is.

Irene, who was once praised for being the most gorgeous visual in K-pop, is suddenly seen in a different light and many no longer think she's pretty.

While Irene's face in itself has not changed, some have stated that it is hard to look at Irene now that her attitude has been revealed. Because of that, many are petitioning for Irene's removal from the group and hope that she will no longer appear on TV.

But why are people so mad at Irene?

For those who are unaware of the situation, Irene is in hot waters after a editor revealed that Irene had yelled at her during a shoot.

On Oct. 21, the editor shared a length Instagram post revealing how she was verbally attacked by a female idol the moment she entered the room. The editor revealed that she had heard stories about the idol's bad attitude, but did not know how bad it was until she experienced it herself. Though no one was named, people assumed it was either Seulgi and Irene of Red Velvet due to the hashtags #psycho and #monster that was included in the post.
