'GAON Chart Music Awards' 2020 Winners: BTS, BLACKPINK, IU & More Sweep Various Honors

Global Stars BTS, BLACKPINK, IU, NCT, and more swept multiple awards during the 2020 "GAON Chart Music Awards"!

On Jan. 13, Wednesday, the annual "GAON Chart Music Awards" gave various awards to numerous K-pop stars, artists, and groups in which songs and albums shone the most last 2020, based on Gaon Charts.

Among the music artists that released songs to comfort and give hope to their fans throughout the world amid the pandemic, top-notch artists including BTS, BLACKPINK, Red Velvet, IU, ZICO, NCT along with the rookie groups Stray Kids, ITZY, Aespa, ENHYPEN took home awards, acknowledging their great contributions in the promoting music, particularly K-pop.

The "GAON Chart Music Awards" was held virtually on the afternoon of Jan. 13, and was broadcast through YouTube and MNET, without physical contact.

On this day, world-renowned K-pop group BTS earned six honors, including the "Artist of the Year"(Digital) award for February, August, November, as well as "Artist of the Year" (physical album category) for the first and fourth quarter of 2020. BTS also won the "Retail Album of the Year award."

BTS, who swept awards, thanked their fans -- ARMYs (fandom of BTS) -- through their acceptance speech video clip.

V said, "I am grateful to the officials who gave us a meaningful award. We are grateful to the ARMY for listening to our song this year as well."

Jin added, "Good news, Gaon Chart Awards is celebrating its 10th anniversary. Congratulations!"

"We hope fans will look forward to the stage that BTS will show in the future," the group said as they concluded their speech.

Meanwhile, the "Rookie of the Year" award went to Aespa (digital music category) ENHYPEN (physical album category). This year's "discovery" award went to Young Tak while IU accepted three awards for being "Lyricist of the Year," "Artist of the Year (Digital for May 2020)," and "Music Steady Seller of the Year" for her hit track, "Blueming" released in 2019.

This year's "Gaon Chart Music Awards" was held virtually, with no artists' appearances and performances to prevent the spread of coronavirus. Only the MCs were present and announced the winners in the studio, and the winners' comments were released through pre-recorded videos.
