iKON's Bobby is currently preparing to release something new this year!
On Friday, Jan. 15, a teaser video featuring Bobby was uploaded to iKON's official YouTube channel and was also shared via the group's SNS accounts. In the video, the idol is seen on the rooftop of YG Entertainment's new headquarter. He then runs toward one end of the rooftop and looks at the surrounding buildings with the sunset making the moment more dramatic. The words, "BOBBY" and "Coming Soon" were displayed at the end of the clip.
Following the release of the teaser video, YG Entertainment officially confirmed that iKON Bobby will be making his first solo comeback in more than three years. However, the official date of release of iKON Bobby's new music is yet to be announced.
As a way to rejoice and show their support for the possible solo comeback of iKON Bobby, iKON fans also called iKONICs took to Twitter to trend the name of the idol. The hashtag "Bobby" is currently trending worldwide with 100,000 tweets and still rising.
The rapper's last solo release was back in September 2017 with his first studio album titled "Love and Fall," which marked his debut as a soloist. Besides singing the tracks in the album, iKON Bobby is credited for writing the lyrics and composing all of the 10 singles, including the two title songs "I Love You" and "Runaway," with the latter being written not long after he made his debut as a member of iKON and was inspired by WINNER Mino's "Fear."
In October 2020, iKON Bobby sang one of the original soundtracks for tvN's "Record of Youth," together with other K-pop artists such as EXO Baekhyun, SEVENTEEN Seungkwan, Kim Chungha, and more. Titled "Spotlight," Bobby's OST was released on Oct. 5. The next month, the rapper was featured in WINNER Mino's latest single "OK Man," which is one of the tracks in Song Mino's second solo album titled "TAKE."
Kim Jiwon, best known by his stage name Bobby, is a member of YG Entertainment's boy band, iKON, particularly the main rapper and face of the group. He joined the label in January 2011 after passing an audition for YG in New York, and he trained for four years before debuting as an iKON member.
Prior to becoming iKON's Bobby, Jiwon competed in the 2013 survival show titled "Win: Who Is Next?" and in Mnet's "Show Me The Money 3" in 2014. These two programs helped the singer be recognized for his incredible rapping skills. After he debuted in 2015, he was chosen to be part of a hip hop sub-unit called MOBB along with labelmate WINNER Mino, which was formed by YG Entertainment in 2016.
Meanwhile, iKON's most recent release is their third extended play titled "I Decide," which was issued on Feb. 6, 2020. During a Christmas special episode of "Vnight from DongDong" last December, the boy group revealed that they have already started recording their new songs, hinting at a potential comeback this year.
