Even after more than two years of release, BTS Jimin's "Promise" continues to receive love from fans as the song has recently broken a new record.
Recently, BTS Jimin's self-composed song has surpassed 260 million streams on SoundCloud, a global music sharing platform. This is a self-breaking new record set by the idol, securing the second position with the most streams worldwide, as well as claiming the No. 1 spot in K-pop.
Jimin's "Promise" previously doubled the 24-hour record of Canadian rapper Drake with "Duppy Freestyle," which he shared back in 2018 and gained more than four million plays in a day. In early January of 2019, SoundCloud confirmed that the K-pop idol's solo track reached 8.5 million streams in the first 24 hours, thus breaking Drake's record.

It was also revealed at that time that "Promise" maintained the No. 1 position on the SoundCloud Top 50 and New & Hot charts for a total of 48 hours after it was released in all countries. Just 72 hours after it was dropped, it was already streamed more than 15 million times. SoundCloud shared that the fans around the world were listening to the song, and the top five countries were South Korea, Japan, Indonesia, Vietnam, and the United States.
BTS Jimin unexpectedly launched the song on Dec. 31, 2018, surprising the fans. He showcased his talents as a singer-songwriter as "Promise" was composed by him together with Slow Rabbit, and the lyrics were written by him alongside his bandmate RM. The track features a sweet guitar instrumental that accompanies Jimin's melodious voice.
The K-pop star previously revealed that he wrote "Promise" around June or July in 2018 and was initially written not as an uplifting track like it is now. He revealed that when he started writing the lyrics, he intended it to be a dark song and that he was figuring out how to approach the song for around three or four months.
The BTS member further revealed that when he began composing music, he was stressed out so he was searching for a way to relieve that stress. And he realized working on songs is the best solution after talking to his bandmate RM, who helped him write the English lyrics. Jimin also shared that "Promise" has a lot of "you" since it was originally a song he wanted to write to himself because he hated his personality of being uncertain and dishonest.

BTS Jimin then unveiled that he wrote "Promise" as his way to make a promise to himself that even though life is hard, he will not make things difficult for himself and he won't insult himself.
Meanwhile, Jimin's other self-composed song, "Christmas Love," also continues to gain more streams on SoundCloud. On Jan. 17, the track exceeded eight million plays, just less than a month after it was released. "Filter," which the BTS member also sang, is making history, particularly on Billboard's World Digital Song Sales chart. For the week ending on Jan. 16, the single marked its 34th week in the top 10 of the Billboard chart and its 44th week overall on the ranking since it was released on Feb. 21, 2020 as one of the songs from BTS's "Map of the Soul: 7."
Congratulations to BTS Jimin!
