Daegu City Criticized for Creating BTS-Themed Tour Without Getting Permission from Big Hit Entertainment

Daegu City, the hometown of BTS members V and Suga, announced they would be launching a tour featuring places related to the two members. However, reactions were not sour after it was revealed they had not gotten permission from Big Hit Entertainment to launch the tour. Keep on reading to learn more.

On Monday, Jan. 18, Daegu City announced that they would create tour packages that allow fans to visit the schools of BTS members V and Suga, as well as spots where they used to hang out. Daegu also revealed that had planned to release vlogs -- a V Edition and a Suga Edition -- this upcoming March 2021 for the public. The vlogs will be filmed by Korean and international ARMYs as they introduced the two idol's hometowns. The vlogs will be released on their official YouTube channel. Daegu City will also request the videos to be shared with the overseas branches of the Korea Tourism Organization.

An official announced the tour through a statement, but one part had rubbed people wrong the way. In the statement, they said, "The contents of the tour does not require permission from the agency, as it only introduced places related to the members and not the members themselves." With that, they revealed that they had not gotten Big Hit Entertainment's permission to set the tour in motion.

Many had noted that Big Hit Entertainment had told them not to pursue the tour in the past and had objected to the launch of the tour before. Others accused Daegu City of using the name of BTS to gain profit. People also slammed them for selfishly using V and Suga for money and agreed that it seemed they were not using BTS's name for a good reason.

Then, some wondered if Big Hit Entertainment should apply for the copyright of the stage names of the BTS members to prevent people from profiting from their name.

What do you think of the situation? Should Daegu City cancel the launch of the tour?

Daegu City has announced some of the places included in the package. One note-worthy place is Dalseong Park, a place where V would play a lot when he was young. In 2015, V had shared an image of him as a child running through the park and one with him as a debuted idol.

The Namsan-dong area will also be part of the tour. Namsan-dong is where Suga grew up and worked part-time as a composer and writer before moving to Seoul. In Suga's rap part in the song "INTRO: Never Mind", he actually mentions Namsan-dong in his lyrics.

Daegu City also announced they would launch a "Hallyu Sky Train Tour" and a "Hallyu 724 Bus Tour" and Subway line 3. The bus tour allows fans to see the middle school and high school of Suga, the high school of V, Seomun Market, Dalseong Park, and Dongseong-no.
