Aespa's New Song Teased by Sonic Korea Mastering Studio's Chief Engineer? Here's What Happened

SM Entertainment's new girl group aespa could be releasing a new song this year!

On Jan. 21, Cheon-hoon, Sonic Korea Mastering Studio's chief engineer, made a post via his Instagram account that could probably be a hint at aespa's new song. While the photo he uploaded doesn't say much, the caption said it all.

The chief engineer wrote, "aespa new single 'forever'" together with several hashtags including "#aespa," "#forever," "#mastering," and "#vinylmastering." Mastering is the final step in the music production process. It is when recorded audio is being transferred from a source containing the final mix to a data storage device.

But it seems like that he wasn't supposed to put out the information as he immediately deleted the post. This action fueled the possibility that aespa might either be making their very first comeback or will simply release a new single.

Aespa's new song, which according to Sonic Korea Mastering Studio's chief engineer is titled "Forever," is believed to be an unreleased track from SMTown Winter Station. Track 3, "Coming Home," was already given to NCT and was launched back in December 2019. If "Forever" would really be given to the rookie group, there are two more songs left: "This is your day" and "White Winter."

Aespa, which consists of four members namely Karina, Winter, Giselle, and Ningning, is just still a two-month-old idol group from SM Entertainment. The quartet made its official debut on Nov. 17 with a digital single titled "Black Mamba." Prior to debut, aespa has already been making headlines because of their unique concept that includes virtual characters of the members.

Apart from that, the new girl group faced several plagiarism controversies ahead of their debut. Their management agency, SM Entertainment, was accused of copying numerous works from different artists outside of Korea in terms of the teaser images, the teaser videos, and the music video of their debut. Sometime later the rookie group debuted, the record label was once again involved in a plagiarism scandal after a virtual artist claimed that the stage setup of aespa's performance in a particular music show is significantly similar to what she created years before. So far, SME has already addressed two of these accusations, specifically the MV and the stage theme.

Even though the new girl group is still a rookie, many fans from all over the world already know about them. Upon the release of aespa's "Black Mamba," the song quickly entered numerous charts both domestic and international. It debuted on the Gaon Digital Chart at No. 117, at No. 36 on the Gaon Download Chart, and No. 116 on the Gaon Streaming Chart.

Aespa's "Black Mamba" also debuted on the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart in the United States, claiming the No. 5 position. The song also landed on the Global 200 chart at No. 183 with 18.9 million streams and 3,000 global downloads sold. In New Zealand's RMNZ Hot Singles chart, the single debuted at No. 37.

What can you say about the hint given by the Sonic Korea Mastering Studio's chief engineer? Could it mean a comeback? Tell us in the comments!
