According to the New York-based news magazine, TIME, numerous K-pop groups that were launched last year deserve anticipation and support from K-pop enthusiasts, particularly the following group. The bands listed didn't just show incredible performances, but they are expected to showcase more of their potentials and go beyond their limits this year.
Here are the six groups you must watch out for, according to TIME:
1.TREASURE
It has not been long since TREASURE, YG's first boy group since iKON has debuted in 2020, but they are already heralding their entry to the Japanese music market in March.
Treasure had received keen attention from local media and fans early on starting with YG's "TREASURE BOX," and received several support following the release of their tracks "BOY," "I LOVE YOU," "MMM," and "MY TREASURE,"-- all four album titles in the "THE FIRST STEP" series topped Japan's major music charts.
In addition, out of 1 million copies of TREASURE's cumulative sales from "THE FIRST STEP" series of albums, the share in Japan was 26%, the same as that of Korea.
2.aespa
Indeed, when the group debuted in November, aespa captured the attention of fans due to its unique concept, helping "Black Mamba" to enter the Billboard Global Chart (excluding the U.S.) at 100th place with just three days' public tally, and continued to chart for three consecutive weeks, the first debut track and rookie group to do so.
Furthermore, their following in social media is also stable given that their MV for"Black Mamba" surpassed 100 million views on YouTube in 51 days and 12 hours after its release, and broke the record for fastest debut MV to reach the milestone.
Recently, the rising girl group aespa which was launched under SM Entertainment finally gained their first music show win since debut ar SBS "Inkigayo"-- despite concluding their promotion for their debut single, "Black Mamba" last month.
3.P1Harmony
Despite being just an upcoming three-month-old group, P1Harmony previously recorded an impressive 300, 000 viewers for its debut fan meeting!
The first online fan meeting held in about two months since its debut was watched by fans from 136 countries and recorded the largest number of viewers in the United States.
The six-member group debuted with "SIREN," drawing favorable responses from music fans.
4.STAYC
Recently, it was announced that the rookie group STAYC, recorded the highest album sales among female artists who debuted in the second half of 2020.
According to the second half of 2020 album sales released by Hanteo Chart, Korea's largest music aggregation website, STAYC's first single "Star To A Young Culture" topped the list of female artists who made their debut in the second half of last year with a cumulative sales of 21,909 single albums.
STAYC, who has emerged as the center of the fourth-generation girl group who will also become one of the leaders for the K-POP market anew, is expected to have continuous skyrocketing fame, and communicate with fans through various content.
5.ENHYPEN
Along with TREASURE, ENHYPEN is also enjoying massive popularity in Japan.
On Jan. 22, their "Season's Greeting" has proved its popularity in Japan, not only topping the Oricon Weekly Chart in Japan but also appearing on popular Japanese broadcasts one after another.
According to Japan's Oricon on Thursday, ENHYPEN 2021 SEASON'S GREETINGS, which was released on Jan. 15 actually recorded a total of 12,758 copies on the weekly DVD chart, from Jan. 11 to Jan. 17.
Earlier, ENHYPEN debut album "BORDER: DAY ONE" also showed remarkable results on major charts, including Japan's Oricon charts. The album peaked on the Oricon Daily Albums Chart on December 4, 2020, and peaked at number two on the Weekly Albums Chart on November 30–December 6, 2020. It also ranked No. 1 in Japan on the iTunes "Top Album" chart, and its title track "Given-Taken" reached No. 1 on the Japanese Line Music's top 100 real-time charts.
6.WEEEKLY
Lastly, WEEEKLY proved their influence after being selected as the next K-pop leader, continuing the trend of new girl groups.
Among their various awards, Weekly won the "Next Leader," which will continue the K-pop craze, at the 2020 THE FACT MUSIC AWARDS (TMA).
