EXO Xiumin is preparing to launch his first new song since his military discharge!
On Friday, Jan. 29, Big Ocean ENM officially confirmed that Xiumin will be singing the next original soundtrack of tvN's hit drama "Mr. Queen." The agency further stated that the seventh song of the ongoing television show which the EXO member took part in singing is scheduled to be out on Jan. 31.
Notably, the new OST for "Mr. Queen" will be the male idol's first release since his return from the military in December 2020. Also, it will be his first song in more than one year since his debut solo single, "You,' which was released as part of SM Station after his military enlistment.
"Mr. Queen" is a historical fantasy-comedy drama that tells a story of a man named Jang Bong Hwan (played by Choi Jin-hyuk) from modern times who one day finds himself in the body of a queen from the Joseon dynasty. Shin He Sun plays the queen, Kim So Yong, while Kim Jung Hyun stars as her husband King Choeljong. This famous drama has been receiving high viewership ratings consistently, attaining its highest scores both in Seoul and nationwide with its most recent episode.
EXO Xiumin's Activities Following Military Discharge
Meanwhile, EXO Xiumin just got back from the military, but he has already carried out a few activities. Just one day after his military discharge, he participated in a photo shoot for Allure's January cover. He also sat down for an interview with the magazine where he shared that he will work hard from that day forward to pay the fans who patiently waited for his return.
In mid-December, he appeared in tvN's short-form variety series, "Things That Make Me Groove," together with his bandmate Baekhyun. When it comes to his future activities, Xiumin is confirmed to be making his appearance on MBC's "Where is My Home" on Jan. 31, which is the same date as the release of his OST for "Mr. Queen." In the show's upcoming episode, the EXO member will act as a real estate coordinator and assist clients in searching for their dream house.
EXO Xiumin before and during Military Service
Xiumin, the oldest member of SM boy group EXO, enlisted for his mandatory military service on May 7, 2019. Prior to his enlistment, he participated in the final concerts of EXO-CBX's "Magical Circus - Special Edition" concert in Japan. He also held his solo fan meeting concert, "Xiuweet Time." Then, after he joined the military, SM Entertainment released his debut solo song, "You" on May 9.
During his time serving as an active-duty soldier, EXO Xiumin starred in an army musical titled "Return: The Promise of that Day" alongside SHINee Onew and Yoon Ji-sung, which was held from October to December. Moreover, the idol revealed through a live broadcast after his discharge that during his military service, he kept on listening to EXO's "Obsession," which came out on Nov. 27, 2019. This was the time when the boy group only had six active members.
