Abyss Company Acquires MAKEUS Entertainment, Home to Sunmi

Abyss Company has become an entertainment company after officially merging with MAKEUS Entertainment, the current home to three Korean acts including solo artist Sunmi.

On Feb. 8, Abyss Company released a notice via its official SNS accounts to announce the acquisition of MAKEUS Entertainment and its plans to accomplish its business as a comprehensive entertainment agency. MAKEUS currently manages female idol Sunmi, male singer-songwriter Park Won, and R&B group Urban Zakapa, which will all now be under Abyss Company.

Last year, the agency was able to attract a large-scale investment, outshining the other companies in the industry of the e-sports business. The agency was founded in 2014 as a subsidiary of the mobile content company MAKEUS Corp.

An official from the label commented on their acquisition of MAKEUS Entertainment and said, "We will earnestly seek to enter the global market, crossing the worldwide entertainment industry represented by K-pop and the booming e-sports industry. We will expand our line of business with generous support for our artists and staff who take charge in the planning/production of high-quality content."

MAKEUS Entertainment is a record label that has captured the attention of the public after signing with Sunmi, a former member of Wonder Girls, a distinct female solo artist, and one of the K-pop queens. The agency also saw its rapid growth and presence in the entertainment industry with the success of talented male idol Park Won and Urban Zakapa.

Current Artists of MAKEUS Entertainment

MAKEUS Entertainment, now Abyss Company, has three current artists: Sunmi, Park Won, and Urban Zakapa. Urban Zakapa is the first act of the company and currently consists of three members: Park Yong-in, Jo Hyunah, and Kwon Soon-il. Originally a nine-piece group, the band became a trio in 2012. Fluxus Music formed the act in 2009 and managed them until 2016.

Urban Zakapa debuted in 2009 with an extended play titled "Café Latte." In September 2015, they signed with MAKEUS Entertainment and their first work under the label is the mini-album "Still," which was issued in May 2016.

Park Won, the second artist of MAKEUS, was initially part of a duo called "One More Chance" from 2010 to 2015. He then made his solo debut in November 2015 following the band's disbandment. His first release is his studio album titled "Like a Wonder."

Park Won then joined MAKEUS Entertainment the following year and his first work under the company is another studio album titled "1/24." His most recent launch is an album titled "My fuxxxxx romance 01," which came out in October last year. In 2020, he also sang two original soundtracks, one for "Ending Again" and one for "It's Okay to Be Not Okay."

And the latest addition to the company is Sunmi, who joined the agency in March 2017 after Wonder Girls' disbandment and departure from JYP Entertainment. Her first song under MAKEUS is "Gashina," which was named the third-best K-pop song of 2017 by Billboard.
