Is there any "secret" why rookie groups such as TREASURE, aespa, and ENHYPEN are gaining massive popularity overseas? See what a Korean news outlet thinks about this.
As the K-pop industry is slowly transitioning to the fourth-generation era, there seems to be a common feature among K-pop idol groups that they are enjoying stardom in the global market.
On Feb. 9, news media outlet, Newsen, claimed that aside from their skills, being a multinational group such as NCT, Pentagon, BLACKPINK, and (G)I-DLE are advancing well in international countries, such as in the U.S.

News Outlet Emphasized the Edges of Debuting as a K-pop Group with Multinational Members
According to the media outlet, the immediate expansion to the global market is the fruit of having Korean and foreign members who were launched in a group together.
"Systematic trainee life guarantees all aspects such as skills, visuals, communication, and teamwork, and it is a great advantage to be perfectly harmonized.
Being able to communicate freely with fans in different languages has become a strength in captivating global fandom," Newsen said.
TREASURE, aespa, and ENHYPEN as Multinational Groups + their K-pop Potential Overseas
In the article, the three new groups that debuted in 2020 were mentioned, such as TREASURE, aespa, and ENHYPEN.
Despite coronavirus, the said groups created noise and established themselves as "Monster and Super rookies," as referred to by K-pop enthusiasts and media, due to their outstanding and remarkable achievements.
In particular, TREASURE, who debuted with their single album "THE FIRST STEP: CHAPTER ONE" on August 7 last year, is a group of eight Korean members and four Japanese members, including Mashiho, Asahi, Yoshi, and Haruto.
It is noted that aside from Korea, Japan is one of the countries with the largest music market, with special affection for idol groups.
In just five months after their debut, TREASURE surpassed 1 million cumulative album sales after releasing their first full-length album, "The First Step."
With their highly praised performance and excellent writing/composing skills, they swept "Rookie of the Year" awards from major year-end award ceremonies.
Along with TREASURE, aespa comprised of Karina, Winter, Giselle, and NingNing debuted with the single "Black Mamba" on November 17.
Particularly, Karina and Winter are Korean. Giselle has a Japanese-mix while NingNing is Chinese.
Prior to their debut, aespa earned attention for their unique concept, along with the fact that the quartet is the first girl group to debut under SM Entertainment in six years.
Aside from their praiseworthy skills, aespa is also fluent in several languages, making it easier for global fans to communicate with them.
aespa broke the record for the fastest debut MV to reach 100 million views. They also flaunted exceptional record after entering global charts such as Billboard in the U.S. and China's largest music site, QQ Music.
Lastly, ENHYPEN created an impressive entry in the music scene with their debut EP "Border: Day One" in November 2020.
Since their debut, they were dubbed as a "global group" in which members were chosen by K-pop fans from 170 countries.
Before last year ended, ENHYPEN made history after having 318,528 sold album copies, the highest among group debut albums for the singles category of Gaon Chart.
Currently, Bighit label's group is earning hot responses from Japan and in the U.S.--- proving how deserving they are to be one of the "best rookies" in the K-pop scene.
