CL's mother has passed away at the age of 53 last month.
On Wednesday, Feb. 10, CL's management agency, Team Very Cherry, released a statement, announcing the saddening news about the female idol's beloved mother, Hong Yoo Ra. They said that Hong, who was living abroad at the time, passed away on Jan. 23 due to a heart attack.
The company added that the funeral will be held for three days starting today, Feb. 10, and the burial will take place on Feb. 12. "Due to the serious COVID-19 situation, the funeral will be held in private with only the family and close friends in attendance," they stated.
Team Very Cherry concluded, "Please send CL messages of comfort and encouragement during this time. May the deceased rest in peace. Thank you."
Back in April 2013, CL shared an old picture of her mother via her Instagram account with a caption that says, "I love you mom." Some fans who saw the photo commented that the singer looks like her mom. Since then, the former 2NE1 member hasn't been public with her personal, family-related content.
There is not much information known about CL's mother apart from the fact that the female idol once shared in an interview back in September 2010 that her mom also knows how to draw and takes part in many creative activities. The singer also shared at that time that she was greatly influenced by her mom and dad.
May CL's mother rest in peace.
CL's Recent and Upcoming Activities in 2021
Meanwhile, CL was recently featured in one of the title tracks of Epik High's latest album "Epik High is Here" Part 1. Titled "Rosario," the song was dropped on Jan. 18 and it also features Block B's Zico. As Tablo says, the single is "the soundtrack that plays when you get your sweet revenge on your biggest enemy."
The male idol also revealed in an interview that they were ready to remove "Rosario" from the album if CL wasn't going to work with them on the song. This just proves that the former 2NE1 member is the only best fit in the track.
Soon after Epik High's "Rosario" was released, it quickly grabbed the No. 1 spot on major real-time charts in South Korea such as Bugs and Genie. The track also peaked at No. 8 on MelOn's 24Hits chart as of Jan. 19. The following day, the song once again topped the real-time charts of Bugs and Genie, as well as the daily charts.
As for CL's delayed comeback with her solo album "ALPHA," the former 2NE1 member previously announced that she will be releasing it early this year. However, it looks like GZBs (CL's fans) will have to wait more because of the sudden news about her mother's passing.
Initially planned to be launched on Nov. 30, the artist decided to reschedule the release of her first physical solo album to make it more high quality. Although, she has already launched three new songs, "Post Up," "Hwa," and "5 Star." In addition, CL recently reunited with her fellow 2NE1 members to celebrate Minzy's birthday. The group is said to be having a possible reunion, which CL suggested, according to Minzy.
