Indian artist Tony Kakkar and Desi Music Factory received criticism once again from K-pop fans after reportedly plagiarizing BLACKPINK "Ice Cream" MV. Surprisingly, this is not the first time that they were lashed out for copying K-pop MVs. See more details!
On Feb. 9, Desi Music Factory released a new track on their YouTube channel, titled "Booty Shake." The track MV is a song released by Tony Kakkar, in collaboration with her elder sister Sonu Kakkar, Sheetal Pery, Hansika Motwani, etc.
Though the song and its MV were doing well on the Indian pop and Bollywood music scene, K-pop supporters, particularly BLINKs (fandom of BLACKPINK), were not happy as they accused the singer-composer of plagiarizing the quartet's hit track, "Ice Cream" music video.

Following the controversy, netizens have a divided opinion about the MV. Some were defending the famous Indian artist and conveying that he only took the latter's MV concept as an inspiration.

The " inspiration" excuse might be accepted if the Indian singer committed it for the first time. Still, it is noted that this is not the first situation that Kakkar was caught in a plagiarism controversy.
In 2020, Tony Kakkar, along with his younger sister Neha Kakkar released the track "Shona Shona."
While the MV sat atop YouTube India, K-pop avid raised their brows due to the MV's striking similarities to B1A4's "Like a Movie" and "Beware* by IZ*ONE music videos.

The latter MVs were both released in October 2020, wherein Kakkar's MV kicked off in November of the same year. Thus, the speculations of plagiarism would get stronger.
As the controversy reached a wider audience with the support of other K-pop fandoms, the news reached WM Entertainment, the agency of K-pop boy group, B1A4.
“We are given a notice about the plagiarism case regarding the Indian artist. We are carefully reviewing possible responses.”
Nevertheless, there is no follow-up statement yet after the agency's initial response.
YG Entertainment, the company of BLACKPINK as well as Swing Entertainment, home to IZ*ONE, are yet to make a statement.
