The Yankees score two runs early and never lost the lead in the game-one victory over the Boston Red Sox Friday.

Sabathia pitched 7.1 innings and struck out 10 in route to his fifth victory of the year and the snapping of a five-game losing streak for New York.

"I always feel like it's my responsibility when I'm out there to give this team a chance to win -- go out and pitch well enough to try to win," Sabathia told MLB.com. "With us having a tough week, getting swept by the Mets, you want to go out and have a good game. I was lucky enough to do that tonight."

Red Sox ace Jon Lester gave up six hits and four runs over 6 1/3 innings, walking four and striking out five.

"Just bad pitches -- behind in the count, not commanding the baseball, the list goes on," said Lester. "It just wasn't a good night for me. It's another one of those grinders. The biggest thing was to just try to get as deep in the game as I could and try to save the bullpen. It wasn't good for me with really anything tonight."
