Kim Sejeong's last solo comeback was in August 2020 with a single entitled "Whale." She also lent her voice to the OST of the Netflix K-drama, "The Uncanny Counter," which she wrote and compose, and then launched on Dec. 12 last year.
Kim Sejeong's Music Career
Kim's music career involved being part of two K-pop girl groups, namely I.O.I and gugudan. Sejeong first debuted as a member of I.O.I, along with her labelmate Kang Mina, in May 2016. She was one of the main vocalists of the female act, which is made of up 11 members.

I.O.I was formed through Mnet's reality survival show "Produce 101," where Sejeong finished second overall in the final episode. The girl group was known for songs like "Very Very Very," "Dream Girls," "Whatta Man," and "Downpour." The members parted ways on Jan. 25, 2017, and returned to their respective agencies.
I.O.I was initially planned to return in October 2019, excluding Jeon Somi and Yoo Yeonjung, but it was postponed to December. The comeback was eventually canceled in October due to scheduling conflicts between the members and the investigation of Mnet's vote manipulation.
However, according to Kim Chungha, one of the former I.O.I members, this year is the year they promised that they would come back as a group.
While Kim Sejeong was still part of I.O.I, she debuted as a member of Jellyfish Entertainment's girl group called gugudan in June 2016, together with fellow I.O.I member and labelmate Kang Mina. Once again, Kim was one of the main vocalists of the female act.

Kim Sejeong would most likely be the first former gugudan member to return to the music world as a solo artist, assuming that no other member would release new music ahead of her. The former I.O.I member launched her first solo extended play, "Plant," in March 2020. She wrote and composed all of the tracks from the EP except for the title track, which has the same name as the EP.
