Matthew Perry Says Fame HELPED His Recover, Being Shunned Out Of Bars; Tells His Drug And Alcohol Addictions During "Friends"[VIDEO]

Matthew Perry opens up about the depths of his addictions during a recent interview with ABC News, saying that problems with drugs and alcohol followed him throughout the ten years of "Friends."

It was no secret in the "Friends" days that Matthew Perry dealt with drug and alcohol addiction. The world wachted Perry go from a healthy weight down to 145 pounds on "Friends" due to his addiciton. When seeing pictures of himself on "Friends" Mathew Perry cringes, calling his former self a "sick guy."

"Mostly it was drinking, you know, and opiates," Perry told ABC. "I think I was pretty good at hiding it but, you know, eventually people were aware."

Mathew Perry ironically admits being one of the most famous faces in America at the time actually inadvertently aided his recovery.

Perry said, "I couldn't just walk into a bar. Everybody in the bar would go, "You, you can't do that.  I just read that you can't do that.  You can't.  You can't."

We aren't used to hearing such statements about addiction in Hollywood. Most celebrities actually blame public scrutiny on their initial addictions and relapses. Are they all just pinning blame outwards and does the constant recognition actually help?

One would thing famous addicts make all the money they need to feed their addiction. They have enablers who can get them the drugs and assistants who are making too much money off them and don't want to step in. So the addiction grows, right?

But in Matthew's case, his celebrity actually helped him.

Matthew is currently helping others after turning his old beachfront mansion in Malibu, California into a sober living home so men can transition back to the real world.

Explaining his rationale, he said "If you're thrown from treatment to the outside world, sometimes its too bumpy."
