Kindergarten Graduation Brawl: Fight Over Spilled Juice Resulting In Eight Arrests In Cleveland, ‘Makes Us Look Stupid And Petty’ Says Local Reporter

The kindergarten graduation brawl in Cleveland, Ohio, which resulted to eight arrests, makes the people of Cleveland “look stupid and petty” according to a local reporter.

According to Kim Wendel of NBC-Affiliate WKYC, just when the image of Greater Cleveland is rising higher, an event like a school’s kindergarten “brawl” making national news forces the city to take a small step backwards.

Right now, Cleveland is host to a major films being filmed. Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter’s Soldier,” and “Draft Day.” Major Hollywood stars are in the city, including Kevin Coster, Samuel L. Jackson and Denis Leary.

Aside from the Tinseltown attention the city has received, it is also experiencing a major resurgence downtown, said Wendel. Word-class chefs and restaurants are flocking in the business area, the Cleveland Horseshoe Casino being present, and an unexpected but much welcomed renaissance on the East Bank of the Flats with an Aloft Hotel and major office tower of a 24-acre waterfront development.

The reporter argues, however, that despite what the developments in the city, what the media is writing about is the recent fight in a kindergarten graduation that resulted to the school being locked down.

Last Friday, eight people were arrested for aggravated rioting after juice was spilled following a kindergarten graduation at Michael R. White Elementary School.

According to Cleveland Police Cmdr. Wayne Drummond, there was “melee” in the graduation ceremony, as adults started hitting each other.

The event made national news over the weekend, with some headlines reading, "Brawl breaks out after kindergarten graduation" and "Kindergarten brawl breaks out over spilled juice.”

Two teenage girls began hitting each other after accusations flew over who spilled the juice to whom. Members of their families joined in the argument, and the fight proceeded outside of the school.

According to the school district communication officer, no kindergarten students were involved in the fight.

A hometown politician, Cleveland City Councilman Jeff Johnson lives across the East 92nd Street from the school.

The school itself is situated on East 92nd Street in a blue-collar neighborhood, right by the University Circle area, according to Wendel. It is home to Cleveland’s world-famous Cleveland Museum of Art and the Cleveland Orchestra.

The site of the kindergarten brawl was also near the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic, known to hosts dignitaries and royalties who go to the medical facility for their medical problems.

Wendel said, just when the spotlight is shining on the city, people lose control and “makes us look stupid and petty.”

She added, “Now we can’t control so many things in life, but we can control our emotions and sense of dignity.”

The reported said that the brawl did not have to happen, urging the people of Cleveland to protect their city’s image.
