BTS, BLACKPINK, and SEVENTEEN Receive Nominations at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards

On Thursday, Apr. 29, Billboard announced the final list of nominees for the upcoming 2021 Billboard Music Awards. Among the numerous Western artists that made the list, BTS, BLACKPINK, and SEVENTEEN shined as the only K-pop acts nominated. Keep on reading for all the details.

BTS Receives Four Billboard Music Awards Nominations

BTS received not one, not two, not three, but four nominees for this years' Billboard Music Awards! The seven-member K-pop boy group was nominated for the Top Duo/Group Award, the Top Song Sales Artist Award, and the Top Social Artist Award. The latter award is fan-voted. Additionally, their Aug. 2020 hit "Dynamite" was nominated for the Top Selling Song Award.

Previously, in 2019, BTS won the Top Duo/Group Award at the 2019 Billboard Music Awards. They are the first and only K-pop group to have ever won this award. BTS has also consecutively won the Top Social Artist Award since 2017, thanks to the love and support they received from their ARMYs. Overall, BTS has won a total of five Billboard Music Awards.

BTS first attended the Billboard Music Award in 2017. They first performed for the show in 2018, where they performed their latest single at the time, "Fake Love." In 2020, BTS performed "Dynamite" at the 2020 Billboard Music Awards.

BLACKPINK and SEVENTEEN Nominated for One Billboard Music Award

BLACKPINK and SEVENTEEN, on the other hand, were both nominated for the Top Social Artist award alongside BTS. This is the first time BLACKPINK and SEVENTEEN have been nominated for a Billboard Music Award.

Both groups have been applauded for their critical success. In the past, Billboard has applauded BLACKPINK's popularity and has given them major credit for spreading the Hallyu Wave around the world. The girl group's releases have also ranked high on the Billboard Chart.

BLACKPINK's Jun. 2020 release, "How You Like That," peaked at number 33 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it BLACKPINK's fifth song to do so.

Their Aug. 2020 release, "Ice Cream," peaked at number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, making it BLACKPINK's highest-charting song on the chart.

SEVENTEEN has also ranked high on the Billboard Charts. Their 2020 album "An Ode" was named as the Best K-Pop Album of that year by Billboard. Back in 2015, SEVENTEEN was the only K-pop group included in Billboard's "21 Under 21 2015: Music's Hottest Young Star's List." Their debut album "17 CARAT" was also the only rookie album to appear in Billboard's "10 Best K-Pop Albums of 2015" list.
