Jessica Chastain Denies Pursuing Role As Hillary Clinton In New Movie: ‘Zero Dark Thirty’ Star Leaves Scarlett Johansson, Reese Witherspoon And Amanda Seyfried In Race

Jessica Chastain has denied rumors that she is pursuing a star role as Hillary Clinton in the new biopic "Rodham," leaving Scarlett Johansson, Reese Witherspoon and Amanda Seyfried as the last three actresses vying for the part.

The "Zero Dark Thirty" star told Digital Spy and several other journalists at the Sound of Change concert in London on Saturday that she only heard about the claims online and that she wasn't eying the lead role.

"No, that's actually not true," Chastain told the group of reporters. "I found out about the project online, but, yeah, there's a lot of stuff out there."

While Scarlett Johansson, Reese Witherspoon and Amanda Seyfried have not publicly commented on the possibility of accepting the role, they are among the list of actresses who have been connected to auditioning for the James Ponsoldt-orchestrated film.

The biopic of the political icon focuses on Clinton's time on the Watergate impeachment inquiry committee during the Nixon administration and her time working as a lawyer in Washington, D.C.

Ponsoldt, known for directing "Off the Black," "Smashed" and "The Spectacular Now," told several reporters last week that he is looking for an actress that embodies the characteristics of Clinton, exemplifying intelligence, drive and wittiness, according to Indiewire.

"Regardless of people's political affiliation or how they feel about Hillary Clinton, you don't find people who question the quality of her intelligence or her drive," Ponsoldt told Indiewire.

"I want a wonderful actress who could embody that."

No other A-list celebs have been poised as contenders in the race to play Clinton in the biopic film, besides Johansson, Witherspoon and Seyfried.
