A man was killed due to being stung thousands of times by killer Africanized bees.

In Texas on Saturday, Larry Goodwin was surrounded and stung by Africanized bees. Relatives said Goodwin's entire body was covered in bee stings. They said there was not even an inch of his body left that hadn't been stung.

Goodwin was working on a neighbor's property near Moody, Texas, helping his neighbor clear brush with a tractor. He found an old chicken coop in the brush that had become filled with the bees.

Authorities estimate that inside the coop, there were about Africanized killer 40,00 bees packed within 22 honeycombs.

The bees quickly covered Goodwin. The wife and daughter of his neighbor tried to help him, but they were stung and injured about 100 times between the two of them while trying to help.

Mr Goodwin, 62, was able to run from the tractor towards the neighbor's house and began to spray himself with a hose in an attempt to make the bees go away.

Someone called 911 and the fire department soon came, but they were also attacked and stung by the bees when they tried to help Goodwin.

They then spent over 45 minutes trying to resuscitate him, but it was too late. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

"If anybody has any brush or anything on their lands please clear it because they don't want to go through this. Nobody needs to go through this," Mr Goodwin's daughter Tanya told a local reporter through tears.

Africanized bees are known to be deadly. Researchers say that about ten stings per pound of body weight is enough to kill someone. In Goodwin's case, every inch of his skin had a sting on it.

The Texas AgriLife Extension Service reports that eight people have died from bee stings from the hybrid bees since 1990. They repeatedly sting their victims and have been known to chase people over a quarter of a mile while doing so.
