'Game Of Thrones' Red Wedding Episode: Screenwriter Admits People Are Discontent With The Show's Violence, US News & World Report Says It's ‘One Of The Most Graphic Scenes In Television History’

Sunday's episode of "Game of Thrones" left some fans disheartened over the death of popular characters, while leaving some concerned about growing television violence.

"Game of Thrones" screenwriter D.B. Weiss told the Hollywood Reporter that several people have been discontent with the television show's violence, citing the fake killing of a horse on the show as an example.

"When we killed a horse on 'Game of Thrones,' people were not happy," he said during an interview with the Hollywood Reporter. "But we didn't actually kill a horse. No horses harmed!"

During the same interview, Weiss told the Hollywood Reporter that growing television violence is harmful to children and that network television makes it easier for them to watch.

"Violence in the real world is awful to witness. But it's the sanitized versions of violence on TV that are worse because they're letting kids watch," Weiss told the Hollywood Reporter.

"On network TV, people die in droves in a way that's clean and easy to watch and fun. It's more like an old video game."

Following Sunday's "Red Wedding" episode, US News & World Report called it "one of the most graphic scenes in television history."

The news website also said that "nothing has ever come close to the size and volume of violence that closed the third season's penultimate episode of 'Game of Thrones.'"

While most "Game of Thrones" fans are lamenting over the annihilation of the Starks family of Westeros, Sunday's bloody episode has caught the attention of Weiss and other producers of the television show to monitor the level of violence displayed.
